I have seen and heard many mock drafts and this year more than most have some players much higher than others. Also after watching last year when Rodgers who was thought for awhile to be the first overall pick fell all the way to the bottom of rd one, presents me with this question.
We have needs at OLB, saftey, maybe CB OL and 3rd WR, however if Jay Cutler is still sitting there at 16 would you let him go and pick a need or would you draft him. OR try and find someone who needed him and try to trade down and get more picks.
I for one would love to have him sit on the bench a couple of years behind DC and see what he could turn into. I would pick him.

I am not saying it will for sure happen. I know it is a long shot, but as the GM you have to prepare for everything. I just wonder where Saban is positioned on this.

With the 16th selection in the 2006 NFL draft, The Miami Dolphins select Jay Cutler, QB, Vandy!

That's what would happen in that case!

If cutler is there at 16 we trade down, unless we still don't have a back up QB. Then you consider taking him.

I agree 100% if he is ther take him, because we will not have a back up QB by the draft, that is a definite need for us right now along with olb, ol, and cb. We take the best available player at the time to address our needs and i believe it would be cutler.

I 100% agree......

There is no way we could pass him up if he is still available.

We will be needing a QB for the far future after
Daunte Culpepper.

and saban said that if he cant get harrington he will take a qb in the draft ,i dont have a link or anything i just remember that i read it somwhere

I'd try like hell to trade down and get some extra picks. IMO, I've never seen such a media created top player in my life. I just don't think he is as good as they are making him out to be......of course, if Saban likes him, then yes he takes him there.

The other point is, that I still don't think that if we draft him that he fills the need for a backup QB....we need someone with experience.

Cutler is all hype. Well, not all hype, the kid can play but he came out of nowhere AFTER the college season and everyone's in love with this kid. If he's there at 16, we hold him ransom and make Minny move up to pick him. Hell, even Dallas or Kansas City might want to take this kid since their QB's aren't getting any younger.
If Vince Young were there at 16, I would take him. You teach him, coach him, trade him. As a matter or fact, we might even have teams willing to trade for him before the season begins should their starters go down with a nasty injury.

You can't hype talent. You can say that you can take a guy like Joey Harrington and put a great team around him and watch him succeed and I would be inclined to believe you even though he sucked in Detroit. That would be "hype" if someone then called him a great quarteback.Dan Marino in his prime would have succeeded anywhere, and it didn't make a damn difference that he scored only a 16 on his wonderlick test. That is talent any way you slice it.I am not saying Cutler will be the next Marino or Elway, but I see talent there. In a few years he will be one of the better QB's in the leauge.

Jay Cutler ....Cromartie & Co or Santonio Holmes

You have to take Cutler, Cromartie is too raw, and Holmes according to a few experts would not have even been in the top 5 receivers taken, while Cutler would have been the overall #1 pick last year.

It would be nice having Cutler holding the Clipboard while Dauntes taking us the Superbowl.
