Let me start by saying that I was rooting for Feeley to win the starting QB position. He didn't earn the job so he got what he deserved.

Let me also say that I am not one of those fans that believes that questioning our coach is a sin. I don't believe Saban is perfect/god/ or any other celestial being. He is just a rookie coach in the NFL who will make good and bad decisions like every other coach (although I do believe he's made more good than bad decisions this season).

Here is my gripe with the QB situation. On Thursday, Feeley played himself out of a starting QB position. A position that is now "given" to Frerotte despite the fact that he didn't play much better than Feeley. Feeley apparently played so bad that he's been demoted to 3rd string. If Saban and co. felt that Feeley was outplayed by Sage and that is why Sage is the 2nd stringer, could'nt you say that Frerotte was also outplayed by Sage which means that Sage "deserves" the starting job? Can anyone come up with any other good reason as to why Frerotte is our starting QB other than the fact that he's been in Linehan's system for a couple years? I know the obvious answer is that Sage was doing his thing vs. lesser competition but if so, he should then still be the 3rd string QB. Saban and co. must have seen something in Sage to promote him. I'm just very dissapointed because it seems to me that Frerotte has been given the same type of treatment by Saban and co. that Fiedler got while Wanny was here.

Sage hardly has any reps with the first team. Now t hat he is t he second stringer, he can get more reps. Eventually, if Frerotte bombs, then can put Sage in there.

I'm talking about for the whole pre-season. Maybe they only wanted him to throw 3 passes because they knew what would happen if they let him throw more. I don't care what anyone says, no pro-Frerotte or pro-Feeley fan could honestly argue that either of those guys consistently moved the offense down the field.

The only thing I question with Saban is if he wasnt going to go with AJ this year he shouldve drafted a QB with one of our picks. Frye, Orton, Greene -anyone. Instead we wait another year to start the learning process

For the last time, this isn't remotely similar to the treatment that Jay Fiedler got from Wannstedt.

Jay Fiedler never had to compete for the job. Gus competed everyday in practice. Unlike Jay, Gus had to split the first team snaps in practice. Dave never let anyone else get first team reps other than Jay.

Gus won this job with his performance in practice as well as with his familiarity with the system.

Brock Berlin was cut and he looked good too. I think it's safe to say that we as fans have no clue about what goes on in the minds of the coaches. I say let them make the big decisions.

Great observation! That would lead me to then wonder why Sage was never allowed to compete for the starting QB position. If you look at the Bears QB situation, Orton went from 3rd stringer to 1st in a matter of weeks while Hutchinson went from 2nd, to 1st, to 3rd to being cut. Now I know that there was an injury to Grossman which lead to Orton's quick ascension but it still something to be answered.

Get off the "START SAGE" stuff.

It isn't going to happen. Stop crying about it. Move on!

Brock and Sage put up their numbers against NOBODY's in the preseason. Guys who are currently looking for jobs. Sure they looked good, but if they played against the people AJ and Gus did......they would have looked like garbage too probably.

The Handwriting Was Always On The Wall

Feeley came here as a career 3rd stringer. The only value he ever had is called 'endowed value'. This is because a 2nd round draft choice was given for him endowing him with greater value than he actually deserved. I've been predicting him to return to 3rd string status this whole preseason. It's a wonder this didn't happen sooner. I guess Saban wanted to give Feeley every chance but Feeley is what he is and now it's time to move ahead.

can you please point out which game Gus did good this pre-season??? I admit I too was rooting for Feeley, I'm big enough to say he couldn't suck it up when it mattered therfore he probly never will be able to suck it up if we are ever in a big game with him as QB therfore I beleive Saban made a wise move not to start him.

My problem is very much the same as this post started out. Gus has not shown that he can do anything in this offense. He's terribly in accurate, although he does appear to make good decisions he can't execute the decisions he makes.

I was dissapointed years ago when we got Sage because he never got the chance to start because of Feidler and Wanny's love affair. Sage does have some talen, Gus has had so many years and has only proven he can be a back up and play 2-3 good games per season.

If we are gonna suck at QB anyway let Sage suck at it instead of Gus, I really don't like him.

That being said whatever happens I hope the Phins become the team no other NFL team wants to play, kinda like the steelers of old...

GOOD LUCK DOLPHINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

That's kinda the point I was trying to make. We don't see the whole picture as fans. We don't know if Saban is going to be a success or a failure yet, so in my opinion I think it's best to support him instead of questioning his every move.

"You're talking bout practice!!!!" A.I

Gus may have literally competed in practice but it would be hard to make a case for Frerotte winning the QB job with his performance on the field in pre-season. All I know is that Frerotte was allowed to start 4 out of the 5 preseason game while Feeley started the most meaniningless of the meaningless preseason games. If they were really even going down to the wire, why wasn't Feeley given a chance to run w/ the 1st stingers? That is what makes me think that Saban and co. are committed to Frerotte similar to how Wanny was committed to Fiedler.
