In re-watching that first series, I wasnt nearly as pissed or puzzled as I was in live action. Gase knows what the hell he was doing.
1. RT F's. up royally with the first play. It's 2nd and 17.
2. Gase isnt worried about picking up a first down- this isnt life or death. He probably planned to give Gore the 2nd play no matter what. In retrospect, I can understand his running it up the gut to let Gore say hello to 2018 as he was itching to do.
3. Now its 3rd and 19- two ugly plays. The odds of converting are slim, the stakes are low (nonexistent?), and the last thing you want to do is set up RT for an INT or sack that sets a horrible tone.
4. So he throws a quick dump pass to Gore that again gets Gore involved like he wants, lets RT get his feet under him on a play
that wont be sacked or intercepted, and at least lets the O run off with a positive yardage play. Live to fight another series under better conditions without giving up field position.
I know as fans we live and die by each play and each series, but I think Gase
knows exactly what he's doing.
This O has NOT been as futile as some make it out, especially if youve been watching first team Os around theleague.
