HERE'S a thought... "This is the last 16 game Season!"

For all of you hoping for a 1st round ROOKIE QB, I think you need to remember the statement that SABAN made last month... He said that this was the last 16 game season for this team... Or something to that effect... This is pretty much an indication that he is planning to find his QB in the FA, and build a team that can win with that FA or what we have in place...

DILFER was not spectacular, but was he any better than GUS? I believe SABAN will draft a QB, but it won't be until the later rounds... He wants the AFC crown in 2006... He so much as said it with that comment above...

Look for the BOSS to get secondary and OL in the 1st 2 rounds...:D

I like to think the same way. The only way to make this season a 17, 18, 19, or 20 game season would be to upgrade the QB posisiton through F/A.

Then or now? Then? Yes. Now? Nah, probably not.

Gotta go FA/Trade AND the draft.

Agreed... FA/TRADE for a QB... 1st and 2nd rounds for secondary and OL positions, 3rd or later for a QB...

Unless the BOSS has something up his sleeve, I see it playing out just like that...:D

Sounds fabulous to me:dolphins: :dolphins: :dolphins:

When I look at our team, and I look at our staff....I just see a very superior complex embodied deep inside the stimuli of our intent, focus and motivation under Coach Saban. I am so glad we got that guy when you look at the coaches that were available this season.

Where in that statement does he imply that he won't be drafting a QB? I don't see it. Of course he wants to bring in a veteran QB because we need someone to start next year and it won't be a rookie. But he has also stated that the QB position is the most important one on the field and has said he wants to improve that position in the offseason. We can't go year to year with stopgap QB's. Thats not how dynasties are run and that is what Saban is trying to build here. Saban may have said he wants this to be the last year we have a 16 game season, but that doesn't mean he wants to settle for a 17 game season every year like the ones we had after Marino left. Look at every dynasty and every one of them had a great QB. That is what Saban wants here and that is why I feel he will try to get a franchise QB in the draft.

Maybe he'll take a shot at Rivers, who doesn't need very much development time

I dont see how that conflicts whith drafting a qb in the first round. A vet like Gus would still probably start this year while the new guy learns.

One could look at Gus' 71 QBR and think that a rookie QB couldn't do much worse.

Heck, Charlie Frye managed a better rating than that.

I think it's a moot point though, as Saban proved to me this season that he drafts for the future, and makes his FA pickups for the present (with a heavy consideration of thier impact on the future).

I wouldn't blink an eye if Saban said that he intends to draft a QB 1st round, sit him behind someone like Gus... and STILL make the playoffs.

The statement your referencing means squat!

Saban has shown that he is smart enough to try and ....

1. Bring in players he can win with now

AND

2. Draft players that will be the cornerstone of this franchise in the near future.

Saban's statement regaurding the "last 16 game season" added to the statements about how important QB play is to him shows that he'll .......

1) Be looking for a Vet to upgrade the position and if he can't get one he'll stay with Gus. The Vet upgrade or Gus will be the guy starting next year.

AND

2) He'll be looking to draft a young QB as well to be groomed for the immediate future.

If the QB he thinks is a possible star is there in the 1st, he'll take that QB in the 1st.

This place gets plain silly.

I just hope Saban doesn't pull a Wanny and trade away our 2nd for an AJ Feeley type. :tantrum: Got be patient and wait for the right guy at the right price.
