DAVIE, Fla. -- New Miami Dolphins coach Adam Gase has a big problem sitting still, the fidgeting being almost as much a part of him as breathing. So on a late afternoon day in May, he was even more of a livewire as he sipped his Monster energy drink, helping to add fuel to his already-maniacal ways.
Sitting behind the desk in his spacious office above the Dolphins' practice fields, the big screen on the wall was frozen with tape from that day's OTA as he talked -- but not for long.

While Gase talked quarterbacks, which is something he loves to do, he grabbed the remote and jumped up and started highlighting Ryan Tannehill, the Dolphins quarterback and his newest project. He went through a series of plays showing Tannehill doing a lot of good, and even some bad, pointing out detailed things.

"He's smart as (expletive) now," Gase said as he highlighted Tannehill making a right read. "We got screwed up on the pressure on this one, but he will stand in there. Watch this. Here he's screwing around with the defensive line on cadence. He keeps getting them to jump. They move the ball up 5 yards and it pisses the defensive line off."

Gase paused as another play rolled on.

"This is where he has to get better. If he sent the line to left, we could have had a big play. He had them go right the whole way. The only threat he had here off the edge was the slot corner (to Tannehill's left) and he didn't send the protection that way. Those are the small things that we are working to get better."

This is the quarterback whisperer at work.

Nothing makes me happier than the fact that he is willing to adapt. ****ing love it!

While I am squarely sitting on the fence with the team right now there is one thing I like from just the blurb I read here. He flat said what Tannehill did good and bad and how he could fix it.

For the life of me I can not remember any of the past staff saying anything akin to that. They just gave natural answers when asked about Tannehill. I refuse to buy into the hype this season just due to how many times I've been burned but there is a hell of a silver lining shinning through that gives me hope. I am cautiously optimistic so far.

For Tanny, The Dolphins there is only one way to go. it is up. Firing Phibin was the best move the Dolphins made last year and hiring Gase was even better.

The big difference for me this year is how much the hype feels real. Hype before was there but felt flat.

Gase just shows with everything he says and does that he is a real coach.

Yea I mean I think we all understand the first and biggest step Adam Gase has to make is taking the cuffs off and letting this young man run an offense. Whether he can effectively do that or not aka the reason other guys were "too scared" to given him full control . . . welp we need to find that out.

Ryan is smart as hell, hard to fully evaluate or even come to a conclusion without knowing he has this going for him.

I do think under Gase, if it does "not" work out, I don't need "another" guy to come in to give him a better chance. We have the guy in house . . . and that is a big deal.

im officially excited

Gase is the anti philbin and I think we all can agree that this is a breath of fresh air

would be great if by the end of the year gase can shift tannehill's mind into a little more of a down the field, big play seeker...sounds like he's an absolute football freak which i am very happy about

The really promising aspect of the OL is that Miami has Douglas, Turner, and Bushrod competing for one slot - with a 1st RD talent at every other position on the line.

Tannehill, like most QB's, is much more efficient with a clean pocket. If Miami has the RB's to field a balanced attack, there should be no reason for the offense to struggle - save for the fact they're installing a new offense.

While I expect growing pains, this should, finally, be a fun season.

Since I woke up optimistic this morning, . . . On O, Albert, Pouncey, and Cameron have demonstrated All-Pro talent. Landry should get significant consideration for All-Pro. Tunsil looks like a potential All-Pro, though it will take a while for him to learn OG. That's 5 guys with All-Pro talent. Depending on the remaining OG, I see no below average player on O.If Gase actually know how to call plays (Lazor obviously didn't), I see little to complain about. The biggest hurdles, IMO, are an additional big RB and injuries.

I was skeptical about Gase when he was first hired; mostly because of my lack of knowledge of him. From everything I have been reading, he seems like the real deal. A real coach who will innovate and actually give our guys an edge during the practice week and on game day. It will be great to see Gase and Belichick play chess on Sundays. This season rides on the coaches and the optimism I feel comes from their approach, teaching and style.
