All this QB talk is frying my brain. How about DT Manny Wright last night???...

I think it's starting to show why there was so much hype surrounding this kid. He certainly played with a chip on his shoulder last night, and was very impressed seeing him get into the Falcons backfield on several occasions....

I think Wright could be a huge boost at DT in a year or two. We're just starting to see what he's capable of, and he's only 21 years old. I think he'll end up looking like steal once he's ready to start. A fifth for Wright will end up looking like peanuts once he comes around, and if last night was any indication of his future, I'm liking it.....

Keep up the good work Manny!!! We're with ya!!!....

PHINZ RULE!!!

i didn't get to see the game, but when i heard we got manny for a 5th i was thrillled. after the crying episode and weak reviews some of the hype diminished. It is certainly nice to hear he may live up to the expectations after all!

Good to hear. I didnt get to see the game and I agree he is good value at a fifth pick even if he isnt ready to start for over a year.

Hey, A positive post!

About time somebody says something positive. The qb situation is what it is. Manny looked good, and I'll take a 5 ypc average from Brown for the season! Can't wait until Saban unleashes the D and we get to see JT wreak havoc. We won't win it all this year, but there will be some fun things to watch.

Happy Manny played well last night but it was just one game and hes supposed to be a project. Vickerson however was supposed to contribute immediately and im miffed with the news about his injury.

Manny Wright was flying off the snap all night. He improved last week and this week was dramatically better. I'm wondering if Vickerson's injury pushed him to step up and take advantage. I was waiting for Griese and Nat Moore to notice Wright's stellar efforts and they finally did. Wright was getting excellent leverage and pushing his man back with great natural strength. Admittedly against Falcon subs. He finished plays with plenty of hustle also. Even on that nonsense weaving Falcon TD run Manny Wright got into the backfield and changed the flow of the play. The RB had to slow and redirect to his right briefly because Wright blew up the intended path of the play. But a combo of instinctive running and no commitment by the rest of our defense led to the decisive TD run.

manny's first step is truly impressive...he looked great last night

KEEP IT UP MANNNNNY!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, well especially since Vickerson looks to be out for the season...

It's nice to see M:boohoo: NNY coming around. I hope he can really be an effective player under Saban's guidance the next few years.

More positives:

1. Derrick Thompson - IMO saved his job. He's fifth on the depth chart though. Tough, tough catches. Made big plays though and that's what Saban wants.

2. Wes Welker - Woo hoo. Brightest star of the preseason. As a returner he's special and I expect him to push for a 3rd or 4th receiver spot in the slot. I also want him in there for the two minute drill. The guy is a play maker and is tough-as-nails.

3. Oline Play
-For the most part, gave the QB's time to throw. I recall this time last year, left and right tackle were huge question marks. Though the running game wasn't the best, It looks like this current starting O will improve.

4. Schulters and Daniels - should be starting. Schulters is just a great football player. He has a good feel for the game and you can just tell that he will be the starter come opening day. Daniels played great last night. I especially liked his run support, which we're going to need a lot of.

5. Ronnie Brown - Kid looks ready to explode.

6. Sage - He's earned at least a shot at starting. This offense looks better suited to his skills than the previous one. At this point, I wouldn't be angry if Saban gave Rosenfels a chance to start. Why not right? Make a play. See what happens. In the preseason, he seems the best - field vision wise - of all of the QB's. That's not good news for Ferrotte who should be thriving. AJ still has a ways to go and his mechanics are showing signs of inconsistency (throwing off his back foot). Call me crazy, but if I'm Saban, I go with: Rosenfels at 1, Feeley at 2 and Ferrotte at a distant 3rd.

We don't need caretackers for this team. We need guys who can make big plays at the QB spot.

7. Gordon and Morris - These guys looked pretty decent. Granted it was against the 2's and threes, but they were working with a 2 and 3 oline in front of them and they were running with a spark. I go into the season with Brown, Morris and Gordon - 1, 2 and 3.

8. Vickerson - before he got hurt (sheesh!). The guy is going to be a player. I guess the bright side is that we can keep him on injured reserve now and prep him for next year. Bad blow to the depth up front.

You'd think that we had won the Atlanta game after the above comments.

Don't get me wrong, it was awful. I'd be more concerned with our overall lack of energy and effort by our ones than anything else (QB battle included).

It's now in the hands of our coaches. Game Planning and getting our guys up to play. We come out with the same intensity against Denver and we'll get blown off the field. A little perspective though: It was a meaningless preseason game and most of the ones were in vacation mode.

We'll see how Saban treats the reaction to the game.

GIVE WELKER MORE SHOTS IN THE OFFENSE! HE WILL MAKE PLAYS!

of course the offense is going to be counted on but this denver game is gonna have to come down to how we do against the denver running game. in other words, the defense will have to win us the game in case we do not score more than 13 points.
