In fact, there was a great moment regarding Mare in the 2001 season. As Mare was on his way to his second year making at least 90 percent of his field to go with his strong kickoff and onside ability, Spielman was asked what he would do to sign the best all-around kicker in the game at the time?
“Who says Mare is that good?†Spielman said, rhetorically. Eventually, the Dolphins did because Mare became the highest paid kicker in the NFL after that season.

Spielman had a knack with the Dolphins for angering his players. He once told linebacker Zach Thomas that Thomas was “overrated.†At least that’s how Thomas put it. Other players thought Spielman was just oddly confrontational.

This guy is a ****ing moron!!! Who is Spielman to criticize the heart and soul of our defense??? And even questioning Mare, Mare was in his prime then. And to come out and slander him like that. Rick Spielman is the lowest piece of **** on this planet. He couldn't hack it as a player and he can't hack it as a personnel guy either.

this is gonna get good cause the vikings are making us hold bigger and bigger grudes against them

wait until we play against them

There's no such thing as a Spielman defender. I think you just made this thread to kick dirt in the eyes of the inexistent.

Well, in is defense, he was right abot Mare. :)

At the time, Mare was at the top of his game. Spielman was just a scout then. His comments were strictly unprofessional and untrue.

Who cares? Maybe the Vikes will hire Wanny :sidelol:
And really run that organization into the ground!

You would be shocked to find that there are Spielman defenders. Give this post a little time and you will see them. They are the ones that come out and say that "it wasn't Rick's fault" and "Rick did a great job putting together the nucleus of Saban's team." Look at the poll at Finheaven.com...16% of the people here think Spielman will do a better job in Minnesota (granted, some are saying "He couldn't do any worse", but there are some that really think we lost out on a real talented personnel guy when Spielman was canned).

How are they untrue... he said he wasn't worth the money, and it has been proven that he isn't. We have been trying to cut his pay ever since, the problem is the contract that he has would leave a huge negative on the cap and adding another kicker would end up costing us MORE just to get rid of him for a wash in talent. If he was getting paid what he deserved however, we woul dhave much more manueverability under the cap the last few years.

He said he wasn't worth the money and yet we turn around and give him exactly what he asked for? Mare was arguable the one of the best kickers in the game in 2001. I'm not saying Mare isn't overpaid. I believe for a kicker, he definitely is. I am saying that at that time, Mare was one of the best kickers in the game. Remember that 50+ yard FG he made at Denver to win the game in 2002?

Spielman was semi-responsible for only 3; Chambers, McMichael, and Booker. And Chicago got the better end of the Ogun trade.

He traded a 2nd rounder (34th overall?)for Feeley and a third for Lamar Gordon. Weren't the Seahawks shopping Shaun Alexander for a 2nd rounder or less?

He also thinks Matt Cassel is the QB to fear of the future.

wow speilman is a idiot, i love this thread, thanks for stating what i hope every fin fan on earth thinks. who said the offseason didn't have good threads?

Spielman, may your tenure as a professional NFL management personall be short and include stops in New England, Buffalo and New York. God your a born loser

Jimmy Johnson would have never told Zach Thomas he was overrated. Oh, and by the way, Dave Wannstedt was also involved in the getting two of the five guys in your signature. Interesting, isn't it???
