Hey Tony, fix the running game

then why were his longest runs in college through the A gap?

Didn't know UCLA and Arizona St. were on our schedule. Otherwise, please let us know when he's done it consistently well in 5 years in the NFL.

Don't get me wrong. I love him as a playmaker, but definitely not as a full time between the tackles runner. We should use him to his strengths, not shoehorn him into a spot he can't handle.

I still wish we would've have let Lousaka go. This is just my opinion, but I believe Lousaka punches the ball in for the TD on the 4th and goal late in the game. That makes a HUGE difference being down 7 instead of failing to convert and going down by 21 the very next play. Would we have stopped them? Who knows, but we DID force a punt on their last possession before the 4th down misfire.

Polite was basically our rock when it came down to short yard rushing situations. Now we don't have anyone proven that can get us a hard earned 1 or 2 yards in key situations. Can Thomas or LJ do this for us? Thomas isn't proven and now is dinged up, and LJ's best years are FAR behind him. We need some power in the backfield! Reggie is good on the edges and is a good option in the passing game, but he's not a go to guy in these situations.

 Say what? But seriously, I'm usually one of the more optimistic people here, and I KNOW it's one game...you don't have to tell me that. There's 15 more games to go and anything can and usually does happen. It still doesn't change my opinion, though.

I still can't believe people are saying that Polite is horrible or "sucks". Sure he didn't have a huge role on this offense, but his presence WAS felt. He was automatic in 1 or 2 yard situations on 3rd or 4th downs. Can Thomas do that? Maybe, but he's still unproven when it counts.

Welll!! its 53 roster spots!! Who Would u let go for a second screen fb only used for running in 1 or 2 yard situations?

The difference was Polite was a bulldozer.

If all you needed was a yard, you send him in and he'd plow his way through, didn't matter if he had a hole or not. The guy was money. Thomas has that explosive potential to make big plays that Polite lacked but he isn't going to bully his way through a mass of linemen. He needs a hole or it's a gain of zero.

With the current RB roster the Dolphins would probably have more success if they went 4 wide and let Henne sneak it, much like the first TD of the game, because I don't have a lot of faith that Thomas or Bush could consistently do what Polite did. Doesn't mean they are bad players, just different, just like you wouldn't use Polite the same way Bush is used.

Now, did Polite lose a step and isn't as good as he was? I dunno. I haven't seen they guy play in a game since last season. I'll have to trust Sparano and Finheaven on that one.

 Thts cute but Dolphins have reggie bush THey could run him up the middle, He could jump over easily, he could burn the defense to the outside which he did alot with the saints, he could catch a pitch n score!! Bush could score EZ!!! Check his highlights!! The play calls is why we didnt score n a couple bad passes!!

I agree with you. I'm not questioning Bush or Thomas. Nobody doubts Bush's play making abilities.

I was only pointing out that Polite was really good at one thing. If the dolphins were in a short yardage situation they could throw him in and he'd get it done. He wasn't nearly as good of a back as Rick and Ronnie were or Bush and Thomas are but none of those guys are as good as Polite was when it came to pushing his way through a mass of bodies to get those short yardage gains.

The problem is, as you pointed out, does a team use a roster spot for a guy who is really really good at one thing. Most of the time he is going to sit on the bench eating hotdogs and reading cosmo but it's nice to have him when you need him. The same argument could be used for Livas, yeah, he could be an explosive return guy but that's it. He'll spend the rest of the game on the bench next to Polite swapping chicken gumbo recipes.

lol ricky willams will have a better average then all the dolphins running back this year
We could have kept ricky and with the 3 picks spent on thomas fix the offensive line and secondary..

They should have had a little foresight and drafted a RB last year. And if they knew they weren't going to keep Ronnie why didn't they trade him while he had a bit of value? They definitely should have kept Ricky for another year, he's way better than the LJs of the RB free agent market.

The whole RB situation is one giant cluster-****.

As for Reggie running between the tackles, how does a guy like Danny Woodhead have so much success doing it? I would think Reggie should be at least as good as Woodhead is in there.

then why were his longest runs in college through the A gap?

Bullsheet, his longest runs at USC were in the 2004 UCLA game, both came from around the 30-35 yard line and he ran OUTSIDE THE TACKLES. You tell me the games he had longest runs thru the A gap. You can't

Because the Patriots are an anomaly of short white guys who wouldn't be very good on any other team but for some reason are amazing.
