I am not going to sit here and pretend like I am one of the FH gurus who knows all. I don't post a lot but have been a fan for about 90 percent of my life and lord knows it has been painful. I just want to post an original thread to let my dolphin breathren know that I think that one Dennis Hickey got a raw deal.

I am not just saying this because of one JL14. I actually was always impressed with Hickey's pressers and feel like he got undermined by ownership who chose Mike Tannenbaum. I am not rooting for MT to fail but I just don't particulary like him.

After this season I hardly care about who they let go-- but golly Dennis did not deserve to be "fired" ... This is more/less an apprecition thread. Thanks for Jarvis and Jawuan. Sorry our awful structure never gave you a chance. I truly wish the best for Hickey and wish we had a regular organizational structure.

Please don't give me one star

we did have problems he didn't fix. lbs,og, cb and safety. I, like you thanked him for juice though. Don't shed tears for him, he got paid millions and he will find another job in no time.

I liked Hickey & enjoyed the players he was able to draft(not all them but some). I think he fell in limbo in a weird situation in terms of following Jeff Ireland meant he was going to look like a genius as long as he didn't screw up like Jeff did, but on the other hand he was left to fix a impossible mess in a two year span. People will guess and assume they know what caused the parting of Hickey and the team, I think Mike did play a part in it but not in terms of "this is my team now beat it".. Mike has been bringing new view on sports science and analytics, so if we were going to do a sweep and new direction of the "ship" then Mike needed to surround himself with people in touch in that field of analytics and science.

Either way, Hickey did one hell of a job for the mess he took over in the short time he had to fix it. I believe heard that he was being looked at by Browns for some sort of role, wish him nothing but the best.

Just wasted two more years of the fans lives, lets see if Ross is just wasting another three quite soon

Thats its fair to be disappointed.
I don't necessarily agree. Though I was rooting for Hickey to succeed.

We must recall that he was essentially unemployed when we gave him the job and a long shot to get it.
He really didnt do anything in Miami to hurt his reputation so he will certainly find employement.

I will say this I was much happier with Hickey's drafting than I was his pro-player acquisition.
If you recall our FA acquisitions have been a litany of misses. Fox, Finnegan, McCain, Jennings... etc.

On the other hand the drafting and particularly the UDFA work has been far better the last two years.
Who was the director of College Scouting...? Chris Grier.

Hickey was hired partially due to the relationship with Philbin during their days in the Midwest.
With Philbin gone there was no reason to re-sign Hickey.
That is precisely the type of move that has gotten Miami in trouble in the past.

what do you expect, he was Ross's 7th choice and wasn't expected to be here long just like Tannebaum who Ross will dump after this year after Miami goes 4-12 and Ross will do another overhaul.

Hickey was a good guy but he had too much faith in small school potentials that didn't turn out for him past the 2nd round. Still the fact that Hickey, Philbin and Tannenbaum all reported directly to Ross created a broken hierarchy.

And noone really knows the hierarchy now

Wow! I thought Hickey was horrible. Just goes to show you how far apart fan opinions can be. I'll give him credit for the Landry pick but beyond that I never understood why he gets so much love from the fan base. Lol he was awful

Don't worry about getting one star from the majority here who are living in a dreamworld and slurping away at current management. Hold on to what you believe in. I absolutely agree with you about Hickey. He was given a raw deal by an incompetent owner. He's the most talented individual we've had in the FO in a long, long time. And did an infinitely better job than his predecessor who was kept around 5x longer. He wasn't perfect (I despise the Fox and Earl signings). But his moves were intelligent and his drafts were special. We've gone decades looking for a playmaker like Landry. He may have hit another one with Parker. With almost all his picks showing varying degrees of potential. Unfortunately an unstable, dysfunctional franchise such as our own is not the best environment for developing players as new bosses generally like to bring in their own.

Ross stumbled on Hickey through sheer dumb luck and never really deserved him anyway. Tannenbaum is exactly who someone like Ross deserves. All the best to Hickey. I hope he gets another chance from a more competent team.

Not losing any sleep over Hickey being fired. Not to say I think the new management or FO are any good, I don't know... but Hickey was nothing to write home about.

He had some hits and misses but my biggest beef and his biggest oversight and 100% of the reason he got fired (imo) is that our two weakest positions coming into this season, OL and LB, were *literally* not addressed AT ALL. We got a couple UDFA and late round LB's and a project OG - that's it. Moreover, he did nothing to address safety, either.

We got stuck having to play Walt Aiken, one of the worst starters we've had in awhile.
We knew that Albert was injury prone but we signed him anyways - and had no depth behind him.
We knew Delmas was going to be injury prone but we signed him anyways - and had no depth behind him.

Complete lack of foresight... thats rookie ****, not the type of quality you expect from your GM. He wasn't ready to be a GM. He was okay, but just not ready to be our GM. He deserved to be fired.

Hickey sucked and was out of his depth. He was never a long term option (thus the short contract) they just hired him because everyone else said know and we needed someone to be gm

Nice man though

Hickey is better served as a head scout, GM is too big of a role for him.

His drafts are severely overrated around these parts and his free agency was terrible as it depended on injury prone guys, most of which got injured.

Nice guy whose legacy will be that he was better than Jeff Ireland and drafted Jarvis Landry.
