OK, so we know Philbin and Hickey are back, so now we need to look at what players will be back. Here is a list of the players that will become free agents and some very high priced players that could be CAP cuts. We could see close to 50% of this roster turned.

Free agents (* means on the 53)
*Matt Moore – QB
Louis Delmas – FS
Knowshon Moreno – RB
*Jared Odrick – DT
*Daryn Colledge – OG
*Samson Satelle – C
*Jimmy Wilson – DB
*Jason Trusnik – ILB
*Jason Fox – OT
*Kelvin Sheppard – ILB
*Derrick Shelby – DE
*Jonathan Freeny – OLB
*Daniel Thomas – RB
*LaMichael James –RB
*Jordan Kovacs – S
*RJ Stanford – CB
Gerrell Robinson – WR
Jerome Messam - RB

Possible Cap cuts
Dannell Ellerbee – ILB (cap hit of $4.2m, save $20.875m over the next three years)
*Brian Hartline – WR (cap hit $4.2m, save $18.1m over the next three years)
*Brandon Gibson – WR (cap hit $1m, save $3.225m)
*Brandon Fields – P (cap hit $790k, save $6.883m over the next two years)
*Cortland Finnegan – CB (cap hit $1m, save $5.45m)
*Randy Starks – DT (cap hit $1m, save $5m)
*Shelley Smith – OG (cap hit $250k, save $2.75m)
*Cameron Wake – (cap hit $2.8m, save $16.475m over the next two years)

Good recap....it will be interesting to see how this all plays out.

Thanks for posting.

I'm thinking Wheeler will be getting his walking papers ... or traded for a 7th round pick, should someone bite.

Doubt it, if Wheeler is on the roster he will cost you $4.4m, if they cut him he would be a cap hit of $4.2m. He will be on the roster through 2015 and cut after next year where he's a $2.5m cap hit if cut and a $6.4m if on the roster.

I'm thinking more because of this:

After Philip Wheeler allowed a touchdown pass in the final seconds of the Green Bay game and criticized coaches afterward, one Dolphins player predicted: “He’s done here.”

In his five games since, Wheeler has played 11, 14, 16, 21 and 12 snaps --- the least of any starter.

“I feel I should be playing more but maybe others don’t think so,” Wheeler said. “I don’t know the reason.”

Part of the reason is that the Dolphins are now often playing with only two linebackers, and they far prefer using Jelani Jenkins and Koa Misi, who both played every snap against Buffalo.

Because of the way former general manager Jeff Ireland structured Wheeler's contract, the Dolphins would have a $4.2 million 2015 cap hit if they cut or trade Wheeler this offseason, compared with $4.4 million if they keep him.

It's not a hit...it's a cap savings of $200K. I think you may confuse people by saying hit.

If it were me I would do this:

*Matt Moore – CUT
Louis Delmas – Bring back at right price...maybe another 1 year deal or a 2 year deal.
Knowshon Moreno – CUT
*Jared Odrick – Bring back if the price is right. We're too thin at DT right now to just let Odrick and Starks walk. Have to bring one back.
*Daryn Colledge – CUT
*Samson Satelle – CUT
*Jimmy Wilson – CUT...too dumb to keep.
*Jason Trusnik – Bring back...reluctantly. He's good on special teams and this draft isn't particular good at the ILB spot.
*Jason Fox – This one I'm not sure about.
*Kelvin Sheppard – CUT
*Derrick Shelby – Bring back.
*Jonathan Freeny – Bring back...good special teams player.
*Daniel Thomas – CUT
*LaMichael James – CUT
*Jordan Kovacs – CUT
*RJ Stanford – CUT
Gerrell Robinson – CUT
Jerome Messam - CUT
Philip Wheeler - CUT
Dannell Ellerbe - CUT

How is it not a hit? If they are cut the bonus is accelerated and the team would be charged that dead money against the cap. There is overall savings to the length of the contract, but they would take a hit against the Cap for 2015 unless they are designated June 1 were you can split the hit.

I don't disagree with who you would resign.

I had the same feeling. I think this roster will look significantly different next year. I think the pressure is on Hickey to have an excellent draft. With some of the cap hits that Miami will absorb when they cut half these stiffs, they'll need a lot of young talent coming in to fill those spots.

I'm thinking more because of this:

Don't get me wrong, it's not my money and I could care less if they cut him or not, I wish they would, but he's going to cost you $4m and change if he's on the team or not. If they cut him where are you going to fill his roster spot for $200k? Now they could keep him and designate him a June 1 cut and split that cap hit, which chances are if they do cut him that's what they would do.

Well for example if Wheeler is on the roster and costs $4.4 million towards the cap but if he's cut and counts $4.2 million against the cap, wouldn't that be a savings of $200K for the 2015 cap?

My point isn't about the money. It's that the organization sounds like they may be done with him anyways. Take your $200k and move on, in my opinion.

Ok, semantics...really??? lol Hey the sun is going to come up tomorrow, let's debate that...lol
