Dolphins general manager Dennis Hickey recently had a meal with Mike Wallace, according to a source with direct knowledge, and the Dolphins continue to mull what to do with their star receiver.

The fact Hickey wanted to meet with Wallace suggests the Dolphins are open-minded about his situation and aren't going to automatically cut him without first exploring if the situation is salvagable.

The Dolphins have been non-committal publicly about whether Wallace, who’s under contract through 2017, will be back.

Though his late-season behavior during games disappointed them, the Dolphins like his production and work ethic.

A close friend of Wallace said he “loves Miami,” would absolutely be OK with returning and that he just “wants an opportunity to make a difference” here.

The Dolphins have a $12.1 million cap hit if he's on the team, $9.6 million if he's cut without a post-June 1 designation, $6.6 million if he's traded (which doesn't seem especially likely because of the size of his contract) and $5.2 million if he's cut with a post-June 1 designation (which also would entail a 2016 cap hit.)

Would like to see this situation get resolved where Mike stays in Miami.

Hope Wallace and the team make it work and Wallace shows up with a good attitude

I hope the situation can be salvaged- we have enough needs to worry about without having to find another WR to replace him.

Strong move by Hickey. I like that he's taking that initiative to assess and remedy a situation. Wallace wasn't his signing and we all know Philbin has zero rapport with his players or human beings in general. So it's great that Hickey is trying to establish a connection. I'd like to see Lazor step up in the same sort of way to connect with and lead the offensive players.

Bro I hear you. My question is if Lazor steps up and does more why do we need Philbin? I think Joe should of been gone two years ago.

I wonder if Lazor is not already in the plans for HC of the near future. That would definitely follow the continuity trend Ross seems to covet.

I think he's like a robot in front of the cameras. He's probably a lot warmer when people get to know him. A lot of NFL people say he's a great guy. Absolutely beloved in Green Bay.

Good for Dennis.

Now we hear that Wallace is good with returning to Miami.

I have been on record that it is up to management to make this work. Great for Dennis Hickey to look at this situation, but where is the HC? If Wallace does not want to return, then there is nothing to do, but release him. However, if he is open to coming back, this needs to work out. If things can not just be salvaged, but put in a BETTER light, this team is better off with a hungry Mike Wallace.

Life is so much easier when filling holes for 2015 without having to fill his role.

in a way I would rather just keep him offensive coordinator... keep him completely focused with that. but head coach is interesting.

But this is great to hear from Hickey and Wallace. Our season has been over for a bit... get together and maturely figure all of this out. I think they both know we need Wallace to stay, I think Wallace does want to say, and I hope all goes well in figuring out every situation or issue that is needed to keep Wallace here and working hard for our offense, as well to keep coaches and team happy... I hope this ends with a great hand shake!!!

also i am quite curious on where they went and what they had to eat!!!
