"Jeremy Tyler has decided to forgo his senior year of high school and turn pro.

Yes, high school.

This isn’t some sign of the sporting apocalypse or a teenager with an overvalued sense of worth. It’s a daring, trailblazing yet well-thought-out move that challenges the bizarre way America develops amateur basketball players."

BS! What ever happened to letting kids be kids? Now, they're going to start dropping out of high school to play ball?????

If hes good enough then why not? He'll undoubtedly receive better coaching overseas than he would in high school and its not like these kids go to school in the US. They go to basketball factories which teach them just enough so they can score the minimum required on college entrance exams while they refine their skills on the hardcourt. He might as well avoid the absurd hypocrisy that modern student athletics is in profit generating sports.

My point is: Why not just let him be a kid? He's 17 years old. What kind of greedy, idiot parent lets their child drop out of school to play basketball? What if he gets hurt and can't ball anymore? Now, he doesn't even have a diploma to fall back on.

Maybe the kid thought it would be more fun being a kid for the next couple years if he was making 6 figures? I highly doubt hes more likely to get injured playing 10 min a game on some euro squad than 30 mpg as a high school senior and frosh in college. And hes still going to get a high school diploma....not because its really worth anything but because he wants to keep the option of going to college open if the NBA loses interest.

if he is good enough for a respectable organization to be willing to take him in and teach him to be better, then he should definately do it.

if you seriously have a problem with this kid doing this. it must be because of jealousy. dont give me this "let him be a kid crap" its not like he doesnt want to do it and his parent are forcing it on him.

thats a golden opportunity. anyone who would pass that up is a ****ing moron. he will:
get to travel to another country
learn from much better coaches then he will find in a high school
develope his talent against people who can actually present him a challenge.

there is no downside. how many people get this kind of opportunity? it would hurt this kid more to stay in high school hear. in 2 years he will be 5-10 ahead of where he would be had he stayed in high school.

let him be a kid???? thats like saying, let me be a kid and not go to college for my business career... why further myself towards my eventual career better when i could be reading business for dummies books at home, though it is less beneficial to my eventual career, it allows me to be a kid...

hes 17... at 17 i was also preparing for what my career would eventually be, or actually wasting time preparing for a career i thought id end up in, though im not even in now...

i see nothing wrong with this
