On Paul Soliai:
"Had a great game. Looking forward to telling him the things he did good. He and Ferg controlled the middle. Great play on Jason's fumble return TD."
On Ted Ginn:
Ted Ginn ran by the defense on two other plays "where we couldn't get him the ball." Important to understand what the player does well and let him only do what he does well.
On Matt Roth:
Matt Roth played 12 or 13 plays. Thought he "played well." "Couple of technical errors, inactivity things. He was physical and flew around."
On 2 point conversion decision:
" like being where I was at 11. 11's a good number to be at because it brings three different deals" (TD, 2pt, FG). "I didn't know how many more at-bats that team was going to get." "We fisnihed a good drive, we had some momentum, and we were at a good number (meaning they would have to execute a TD, 2pt, and FG)."
He actually says a lot more about it and the media seems to grill him some more - the video is then cut and it's clear some discussion/comments were left out. He probably had to make a snarky comment at one of the beat writers to get them to shut up.
On the rookie corners:
They both picked different times in the game to play well, and they both "had bumps". Contested a lot of balls. "No mental errors, but a few technical errors." Each played 81 plays. Single digit technique errors. Vontae was physical - "the guy makes tackles"
On what went wrong offensively and what needs to be improved:
"You have the give the Jets credit (I'm not afraid to do that). They played well up-front. Set the tempo up-front."
"We gotta find some more chunk yardage. Advance the ball down the field."
On using Pat White compared to how he had expected to in the summer:
"With Pat White at the beginning of the summer I might've thought I'd be using him a little differently, a little more. The reason why that number is down is because he's the second QB." Went on to say Henne got sacked 6 times, and any one of those could lead to White being in the game full-time.
On Pat Turner:
"As far as Pat Turner goes, Pat's had a couple good solid weeks of practice, getting better and better. Sooner or later we'll see him."
On long pass plays:
Ran 4 or 5 plays designed for long pass yardage but couldn't get the ball to the open receivers. Got sacked on two of those.
"Sometimes throwing it into the 13th row of the stands is a good play."
On most important stats for QB performance:
One stat that isn't a stat is decision grade. Then, location and completion percentage. And drives. "7 3 and outs - we gotta be better than that, credit has to go to the Jets for that as well."
On saying things you might regret and the thought process that goes into what you say after a game, especially a loss:
"My cooling off period takes a few more hours. So I choose to say less at that point. Sometimes if you don't have the evidence, it isn't worth saying it. I have no problem letting you guys know what I think when I watch the tape. But the evidence matters to me a lot."
Do you feel Jets disrespected you?
"Oh I dunno. I just know we're 3-0 in the division."
The presser is on Aquavision. Also while you're there, be sure to check out the post-game lockerroom celebration. Ted Ginn gets the game ball and it's clear the team is behind him.
