One thing that pisses me off about the way we draft, is we pass on highly rated prospects who fall in our laps due to "character issues". In this draft guys like martavius Bryant, we pass on Yankey, mosses to name a few. When you look in past drafts at guys like Matthieu, janioriis Jenkins , vontaE burzlict, Alston Jeffrey. They are highly rated for a reason. We care to much about character over talent.

Though I understand the James pick.

taking the gaurd from ucla in round 1 then going Morgan mosses in round 2 I feel would be a better option for us
Then getting a lb or RB round 3 martavius Bryant round 4 and Yankey round 5

time will tell if I am right. I do like what we have done. But I hate over looking talent due to off field issues with guys in the middle rounds.

When you already have several questionable character guys on your team the last thing you need is another trouble maker. The dolphins are really trying to fix the reputation lost from last year.

The guys I named that we passed on due to charector issues have been model citizens since getting drafted. The coaches are as much to blame as the players for what happened in miami.

Continue tius thread its better than all the crap people are posting

Real easy to decide what would have been the best picks after the draft. Anybody could look back at it but no one could have predicted what guys would last to what round.

Time will only tell if someone else was right in picking them. The coaching staff and the leadership on any given team play a big part in positive character growth. If we had a good track record in this area, I'd be okay with gambling a little, but we haven't spun much straw into gold in recent years.

If we had strong effective leadership that could handle and manage "questionable characters" then you are absolutely right about this. Just like Parcells said, this is a talent acquisition league. Philbin is not the type of coach to try and handle people like this. Look at what happened last year. Is a shame that some of this talent will never be considered here at least until he goes.

The Honey Badger was totally out of control and even kicked out of LSU. His drug problem was serious and before being kicked out, he wasn't even attending classes. His friendship with Patrick Peterson and being taken in by Peterson's Dad was instrumental in turning things around. It is terrific that he was able to turn it around, but the key was going to Arizona Cardinals and being alongside the good influence of Peterson and his Dad. Doubtful that he would have been as successful here.
Your general point is valid in terms of giving some guys with character concerns a chance. Many don't make it, but giving the occasional guy a chance is OK.
Ireland seemed to want to give the guys recovering from injury and those with mental health issues a chance.

The guys I named were highly touted coming into the draft. I don't think you comprehend whats being said.

Toot toot much? This thread is no better than anything else on the board and has been brought up every draft since the Dez Bryant interview. It's part of this organization's motto to bring in high character players. Miami as a city has been known to bring out the worst in people. Not saying I agree with passing up on talent bc of character, but it's what Philbin learned in the Green Bay organization. They want to distance themselves from potential locker room cancers. It's what it is. Sucks when you see those highly touted guys you brought up succeed and we passed on them because the team limits themselves on the potential talent. But it's not that novel of a topic.

Philbin is a ***** even high charector guys that are here are losers. Look at where that got them. Not passing would actually have been better and the crap last year would not have happenned if we take Alston Jeffrey that means we don't have Jon Martin.

Not really going to address the character concerns of previous players because after what happened in our locker room last year we couldn't take players like that. I will address the players you listed though. Su'a-Filo would've been a good pick. OC Bill Lazor was Morgan Moses' OC at Virginia his first three years of college. Lazor knows that Moses is lazy, doesn't work hard, & has some off field issues. Martavis Bryant is a good talent with questionable hands but doesn't fill our need for a slot receiver. David Yankey is a non-athletic plodding guard that doesn't fit the zone blocking scheme.

Yep.

Philbin is a push over and shows no confidence in anything except picking up trash from the Nick Saban bubble.
