I know it's always easier to evaluate things afterwards but here's my question. The Fins were looking like a very good team the 2nd half of last years season. The offense was gelling nicely w/Gus and Chambers. Ronnie was looking like a solid pick that was going to pay huge divedends in the years to come......my question is, after all the gains that were made wouldn't have been more reasonable for Saban to beef up the offensive line, bring in some young players w/talent that have nothing but an upside to their careers instead of spending 50million on a QB w/questionable injuries?

I know, putting the season in the hands of Gus would be a gamble but I really don't see the situation much different than Minnesota when they went with Brad and traded Daunte to Miami for a 2nd rounder. Everything seemed to be going great for a 1st year coach

It just seems to me that Miami had a great "game plan" in the works and basically gambled a lot of it (not being able to bring in new players, giving up a 2nd round pick, trading for an injured QB) on questionable decisions.

Yes in hindsight it certainly does all seem rather stupid  We had a solid defense which we dismantled and we wasted our first on another db for said defense all the while neglecting the line taking only 1 lineman who was an injury prone project and more recievers. It seemed the perfect time to be rebuilding through the draft but instead Saban decided to bring Daunte here and try to patch up the holes with more seasoned players from other teams in an attempt to be SuperBowl bound. At least I guess that's what he was doing, I see no other reasonable explanation. I guess that old saying about putting the cart before the horse applies here.

If it aint broke don't fix it...

Even though you're a Balls fan I find it hard to disagree with you. I never wanted Culpepper from the beginning. I think he is a vastly overrated player due to his freakish physical skills (which are obviously not what they used to be since his injury).

He's overrated in the same sense as Michael Vick. Because they are both so physically gifted they get more hype than they deserve (although Vick is overrated imo, I'd still consider him a better player than Pep).

Granted, this can't all be pinned on Daunte because his line has been playing subpar but he's made his fair share of mistakes as well.

I agree with much of what you said. The offensive line for the Dolphins needed more attention during the offseason. I believe that Saban chose Daunte over Drew Brees because he felt Brees was asking too much money for his medical status (throwing shoulder). Even though I didn't know the severity of Brees' shoulder, it seemed like a wise decision. Here in Miami, we've had more than our share of weak armed QBs recently. I also felt that Mularkey was a good hire, so I can't really criticize Saban because most of the moves he made during the offseason I really agreed with.

What the hell does a Bill's fan know. Hindsight shouldn't happen after 4 games. Your suggestion is going to sound quite silly when Daunte is healthy. Pass on getting a 3 time probowl qb for a quy(Frerotte) who is approaching retirement. Get real. As far as the vikings, their offense looks even more anemic than the Dolphins and they don't have oline problems. You sure they are happy about putting their future on the back of a guy who has little to no upside whatsoever. Instead of hanging out on dolphin boards you should try out the vikings boards sometime where they aren't exactly ecstatic about Johnson.

I really like your optimism and faith in the team (which I share as well), but there's no need to slam him. "So-Long-Ricky" made an intelligent post with some critical yet relevant questions. You're right. It is too early to make a final verdict on the offseason moves, but let's show our guests a little more respect.

I do go to a Bills website that I'm very active on. It's nice once in a while to discuss something else besides the Bills all the time.

Unfortuntely replies like this are becomming way to common for anyone that's not a Fins fan. Am I smack talking?? NO.....am I attacking any posters? NO.

It's amazing how many posts and comments I've seen where people have said Saban sucks, Mularkey Sucks, Daunte sucks, etc.....but then I make a somewhat critical comment between all that crap and people "zone in" on my post and start attacking me.

It's getting old really quick :shakeno:

Thank god I hope it gets ancient.

After looking over some of your previous posts it's impossible to even remotely to take you serious. Feel free to go to another board yourself and "contribute" only like you can

The OL did need attention but considering the options such as salary cap, we couldn't make a tremendous leap with our OL. There weren't very good LT options other than Jeff Backus who was franchised. Jon Runyan was a possibility if we moved Carey to LT. We didn't know if Marcus McNeill, who blocked for Ronnie back at Auburn and is now keeping Rivers right side up, would be around for our pick. RG Ashworth would've been a better solution than Bennie Anderson or Mawae at C with Hadnot at RG.

But also, Culpepper can't operate unless he has a vacuum sealed pocket or a wide lane caused by soft coverage. Brees was Saban's first choice but he didn't want to gamble on the shoulder. Had he known Harrington would be available as insurance, he might've signed Brees and kept the 2nd rounder.

But again, season's still young and a lotta things can happen each week.

The guy comes here makes a good post and you tell him to get lost. How about showing a little maturity and just ignoring the post while the rest of us discuss it k thx.
Maturity.... what's that?

You do bring up some good points. I think most people thought Saban made sound moves in the offseason. I know I did, but they just haven't panned out. As for beefing up the OL, Saban did make an attempt to upgrade by bringing in Shelton and drafting Joe Toledo. This was on top of bringing back the starting 5 from last year. McKinney got hurt, Toledo got hurt, Anderson (yeah..Bennie Anderson :shakeno: ) got hurt, Macintosh rode the bench until playing guard last week. The attempt was there...

In hindsight our 50mil QB would be that guy starting in New Orleans right now. BTW hope you don't think all Dolphin fans are rude. There are some decent ones around here too.

Just ignore it. I find nothing wrong with hearing opinions of fans from other teams. As long as it's intelligent and not bashing, it's all good.

i just think it was ridiculous how much of our squad that we turned over. you cant expect to do well and have a well gelled team when half the roster is new come the start of the season.
