Give him an offseason to acclimate himself, get the kind of scheme he wants.

Looking at the candidates I don't see anyone I'd rather have.

I know you all think that because he couldn't step in and immediately turn this trainwreck of a season around he's terrible, despite the seemingly insurmountable odds he encountered this season.

I doubt it happens, but I think this would be the ideal situation for our roster and our team's success.

Some of the signs I have seen point to this being a possibility....like hiring an internal GM. If we are serious about bringing in a legit HC, I think we would have waited to name a GM. I think we will still interview, but I think Campbell is a strong possibility!

From the sounds of it I don't think Dan even wants to be a HC at this point in time.

I know he was talking about the family thing but he also said he was born to be a coach. I think he would jump at the chance to be a HC....his family statements were more of what he was thrown in to this year. Just MHO.

It would be the best move. But it's not going to happen. Frankly, he deserves better than this ****hole organization. Tannenbaum's going to lead us into an era of flaming dog****. It's good that the people with actual ability get the hell out of here.

Lure Mike Holmgren to Miami (rumored to be interested in 49ers and a return to coaching) see if he will retain the younger Campbell as an Assistant HC. Find a stud DC and serviceable OC to compliment the staff (holmgren can call his own offensive plays.)

Left field but a fun idea and I believe Miami has way more upside than the 49ers (though Holmgren is nostalgic about his old team).

well if you interview him and ask him:

- how would you fix the in-game decision issues?

- how would you fix the issues in the lockerroom?

- how would you go about re-staffing the coaching?

- what is your greatest weakness? (just kidding)

anyways if he can nail these questions and others, then why not hire him?

He not ready but i guess if we cant bring anyone big id be okay with it however we need top notch offensive and defensive coordinators in order to take the pressure off.

Sorry, I can't agree. I like Campbell as a TEs coach and maybe even as a future HC, but there were problems on the team he should have addressed immediately after taking over, but it took him too long to diagnose those problems and find remedies.

For example, Campbell allowed Lazor to remain in place even as the passing game was regressing and Lazor ignored the running game. Campbell also should have lobbied harder for personnel changes when Jamar Taylor was getting roasted in multiple games. I think Campbell was a little intimidated by his status as an interim hire and thus failed to exert his authority when it was really needed.

Who OC and DC would work under him? Our schemes were so vanilla you can't expect to compete all year like that. I like Campbell but he doesn't bring an X and O advantage to this team, nor does he have the pedigree to install a new offense or defense or hire the guys to do so.

It would be the worst move we could make to hire him as full time HC. He is not qualified and doesn't hold the players accountable. What about during our losing streaks when he said they have found the answers for this and that and the other thing only to be destroyed and look like morons. Playcalling was still a huge issue. He isn't ready.

he fired 2 coordinators and put Jamar on the bench eventually. He also won his first two games handily so when did you want him to blow people up exactly? How many interim coaches fired coordinators, made the personnel changes, etc? It's not like he had a ton of quality players on the roster lining up to play in place of the crappy starters at certain spots. The non-existent pass rush came to life after he took over. IMO your expectations are just too high. The guy did a heck of a job. He really did.
