I figured I'd check out their forum to see what they are saying baout the possible loss of McCoy. The threads looked a lot like ours did last year. They seem to want him out of town. A lot of the terminology reminded me of our ordeal with Dan Henning. Words like predictable, terrible play calling, ect. Not what I was hoping to see, as I dont much about the man. The "young Don Shula" phrase had several of them laughing at us.....and the writer of the article about McCoy. I'm not sure how I feel about him as our next HC, if hes the choice.

Can anyone persuade me one way or the other? Talk me off the ledge or into jumping, haha.

he changed the offense in midstream to fit tebows skills. they went to playoffs. they scored at the end when needed. dont care what bronco fans say.

I, like you, am not sold on McCoy. But I have read about him, listened to him speak and tried to look at his work as a whole. First thing is he is an OC for John Fox. Fox likes his teams to run. So as OC, he's going to plan according to his coaches wishes. Also, Denver led the league in rushing. The "bad play calling" I think had more to do with the QB executing than what was called. I heard people complain that they always ran on 1st down. Would you want Tebow throwing on 2nd or 3rd and long? No way. So you let your #1 running game make it easier on him. You can only work with what you have.

I also like the fact that he was a QB that played professionally (albeit a short time). QBs need to be good game managers and good leadears (both qualities you look for in a head coach). When I watched some videos on him, he sounded like somone who knows what he's talking about. No "uhs" or "ums" or "oks".

I think his game plans would be much different with the players he would have here. Look, he was able to get a lot out of the Broncos this year and considering their QB completed less than half his passes, it was impressive. And the call to end the game against the Steelers was a thing of beauty.

I'm not saying the guy will be a great head coach, but I can see the potential.

To be fair, before Fox arrived in Denver, McCoy ran a 13th and 15th ranked offense with Kyle Orton and no real RB in 2009 and 2010. The offense slipped a bit in 2011, but thats what happens when you hire a very conservative coach in John Fox.

McCoy worked under 2 coaches that had completely different philosophies. Under McDaniels, he had a top 10 passing offense and a poor run game. Under Fox, he had the 1st ranked rushing offense, and a terrible passing offense. McCoy could be a flop as a HC, but as an OC I think he has shown he is pretty dynamic, especially with the players he had.

I don't even know a thing about McCoy, but the fact that he adapted to having the worst throwing QB in the league, and figured out how to win says tons to me. Of course he called running plays all the time, what else was he going to do, let Tebow air it out 35 times a game?? He was smart enough not let him throw 7 INT's a game and gave them the best chance to win. I give the guy a ton of credit as an OC, but can he run a whole team? thats what I wonder.

Fans always hate what they currently have. I am sure 49ers fans were high fiving when Mike McCarthy was hired as the Packers head coach. Especially coming off a season where he coached the 49ers offense to a 32nd ranking.

They finished the season 1-4...they backed their way into the playoffs thanks to Oakland choking down the stretch.

As far as Dan Henning...he learned his play calling from Dan Henning when they were both with the Carolina Panthers.

One thing I like about McCoy is his adaptability. We have had way too many coaches entrenched in their ways despite the personnel they worked with. It would be refreshing to have a coach who recognizes the shortcomings of his team and gameplans around them.

I wonder if Daboll would stay if McCoy is our HC. I think it would be smart to keep Daboll in place.

Go to any board after a team loses and most of the fans will blame the OC, that is the typical scapegoat. Fans believe playcalling not execution are the key to an offense, fans are usually wrong.

I don't know enouhg about McCoy to have a strong opinion one way or the other but he did do a great job designing an offense around a QB who can't throw helping that team get to the playoffs and win a playoff game.

Of course he's terrible, he couldn't magically make a runningback into a drop back passer. He only adapted the offense to the strength of the talent he had, that there alone is the sign of a bad OC. A big complaint is that he didn't throw the ball on 1st down more which makes sense...why wouldn't you want 2nd and 10, and then 3rd and 10. Why would any OC want 2nd and 5/6 and 3rd and 3/4 to help his QB, that's just plain silly talk. He obviousily never understood Tebow's true skill sets!!!

Isn't this the same fan base that erected billboards throughout Denver demanding that Tebow be the starter?

Tebow is a terrible NFL QB. The fact that McCoy's offense got even 1 win with this kid show great coaching.

No, they played tough enough defense to keep the game close. Then Tebow managed to conduct two or three decent drives after he and the rest of the offense stunk out the joint. They made the playoffs, because the Raiders and Chargers played as if they did not want to make the playoffs. If McCoy were the defensive coordinator, I would give him props. That option foolishness did not do squat in the playoffs when New England figured it out. That is like saying that Dan Henning was a good coach, because he used the wildcat.

Of course they are gonna hate on Mccoy. Tim Tebow can do no wrong... so someone has to be the scape goat.
