No, they played tough enough defense to keep the game close. Then Tebow managed to conduct two or three decent drives after he and the rest of the offense stunk out the joint. They made the playoffs, because the Raiders and Chargers played as if they did not want to make the playoffs. If McCoy were the defensive coordinator, I would give him props. That option foolishness did not do squat in the playoffs when New England figured it out. That is like saying that Dan Henning was a good coach, because he used the wildcat.

Mr.Day hits it perfectly. In watching most of their games this year, it was their defense that kept them in it. The offense all season struggled to get few or any points all game and if the defense kept them close enough by the end of the 4th quarter, teams played just conservative enough to lose to them on one or two plays (like we did). That was why they were successful. The offense played conservative and struggled all game, while the defense usually kept them close enough for Tebow to make 1-2 plays at the end of the game. How that makes a great OC, I have no idea.

Miami scored 20 points per game this year with decent QB play. Denver scored 19 points per game this year with a RB as a QB.

Nobody is saying McCoy's offense was highly succesfull. What people are saying is that the offense overachieved with the personnel it had. Big difference.

If you don't like McCoy because you think he is going to be another Dan Henning, I'm just going to say again, John Fox.

And what did our 20pt game avg get us? a top ten draft pick. My point (and Mr. Day's) was that it was their defense that really won most of their games for them with the offense playing very conservative until the end of the 4th quarter. Did Tebow and a couple of their offensive players step up a the end of the game to make the play, yes. Is that a shining testimony to the OC or the play-making of those guys? We don't know. The real point is that he's just as unproven as Philbin and we are completely rolling the dice with either guy. That's all we are saying.

Agree, the Broncos got to the 2nd round of the playoffs with a QB that can't throw. they were a good running team with 8 and 9 in the box

The Broncos' defense isnt relevant in discussing McCoy. If you want to make the case that McCoy was a bad OC, then you have to give some evidence that the offense underachieved with the players that they had.

Fans always hate what they currently have. I am sure 49ers fans were high fiving when Mike McCarthy was hired as the Packers head coach. Especially coming off a season where he coached the 49ers offense to a 32nd ranking.

Not when they're winning.

Not when they're winning.

I went to both the div rd game at NE and the Championship game at Pitt last year and the crowds in both Stadiums were whining about their OCs all game long. It's what fans do.

Well, let's see. If not for the Broncos defense and kicker playing much better in the 2nd half and some very, very fortunate bounces going there way then McCoy would never have been interviewed or even thought of as a HC this year. If not for the Tebow mania and the miracle season they had, nobody would know who this guy is. He gets praised for changing to a college option mid-season. I dont see it as that great of an accomplishment. How hard is it to run a college offense based around the option? The Broncos basically ran 3 plays, over and over and over. Most of that has to do with having a fullback playing QB but regardless, any OC could've "developed" that ancient offense mid-season. Why the hell we didnt go with Zimmer is beyond me. He's exactly what this team needed but I guess having balls and speaking your mind and being fired up is too much for Ross.

he changed the offense in midstream to fit tebows skills. they went to playoffs. they scored at the end when needed. dont care what bronco fans say.

lmao, dude, is it that hard to install a few options play for tebow and a few 10 yard quickouts? u dont care what they say? everyone should care what they say, they want him out of town for a reason, hes a conservative play caller like sparano, i watched denver play the patriots in the regular season and it was nothing but 10 yard outs and options plays all game. If john elway had not stepped in and told the hole team to pull the trigger the broncos would have never beaten the steelers. Say NO to mccoy, JUST NO.

its not ross, im sure it was ireland telling ross what to do as usual. Zimmer seems like he would not stand for irelands bull**** so our gm wanted no part of him. Mccoy seems like he has no problem with ireland bossing him around everyday.

Damn, I remember a Phin OC who adapted his philosophy to his team. A team that came out struggling to pass the ball. Who then had to rely on a gimmick offense to get his team to the playoffs. Only to be throttled by a superior team in the playoffs.

The Steelers also lost Hampton and Keisel during the game, and had no Clark. That PITT defense was a shell of what it has been. Add Big Ben being a statue in the pocket....and well you get what you got.

DEN is a product of circumstance.

I'm sure your wrong.

Exactly. What McCoy needs to be judged on is how he used and/or maximized what he had.

Complaints about him being conservative are just stupid, IMO. What do they expect with a team that's lacking in talent? Did they expect him to try and be the Green Bay Packers with that offense? Tebow often had issues hitting the side of a barn from 10 yards out, and they want to open the offense up more? The guy was practically a miracle worker for getting what he did out of both Tebow and Orton the past few years with the limited talent they had to work with.
