I've always felt that playing on a Thursday helps out both teams. This is because they get a few extra days of rest and practice before their next game. Playing with short rest, however, doesn't really affect the outcome of the game because both teams are on short rest.

EXAMPLE:
Dolphins play the Lions on Thursday after playing on Sunday
Lion play Dolphins on Thursday after playing on Sunday.
Both teams are then on 4 days of rest which means the short rest has no real outcome on the game since both teams have the same disadvantage.

The Bills play the Jets on Sunday and then follow up with another game the following Sunday against Jacksonville.

Therefore the following Sunday when the Dolphins play the Bills the Dolphins are on 10 days of rest while the Bills are only on 7 days.

To me it would seem like any team should welcome a 10 day rest for their players midway between week one and the Super Bowl.

The one reason that the short week might not be an advantage to us this time around is the coaching aspect.........let me explain.

The shorter the week, the less a factor coaching is IMO. Look no further than the 2003 Thanksgiving Game against Dallas for reinforcement of that. The Dolphins (led by Wanny) came in w/ an identical record as the Cowboys (led by Parcells)....and proceeded to destroy them. The huge coaching advantage that the Cowboys had was nullified and we won becasue we had the better talent.

Now that we have Saban....he provides us a huge edge over most teams....an edge which will be minimized in any short week. Now for this year's game, I feel that we have more talent than the Lions anyway, so it shouldn't be a big deal, and I still would expect us to win.....but the short week will help minimize the huge Saban vs Marinelli advantage.

rest is overrated. ask the colts

there's a difference between a 10 day rest and not having to play a meaningful game for over a month.

why is that interesting if we dont ev ne know if we are going to play th ebills the following week

Well we aren't playing Detroit, Dallas, TB or Denver.......so unless we play Kansas City that next week, we are going to play a team on 7 (0r 6) days rest while we have 10 days rest. See the advantage now?

However, if one team has a few niggling injuries (which normally take about a week to recover from, allowing the players to play the next Sunday) and the other team is injury free then there is a disadvantage. The team with the niggling injuries could have players who do not recover in time for the game due to the short week which means one team could be at full strength while the other is severely hampered due to the injuries.

The Fins could play the Lions at 1:00 and the Bills at 4:30 on the same day, on two days rest and still win. Those teams are both going to stink.

I might not be an advantage if the Lion have a BYE week the week before the Turkey game day....you never know...but we should be able to beat the Detroit Lions. Hopefully we will plays the Bills, Jets and Patriots on the road early in the season and not have to play their in Nov, Dec., but at least Nick has shown he can win in December. I think Pittsburgh and Indy are the key games....hopefully we can win at least one of these....I think we can go 7-1 or 8-0 at home.

I believe you have your games crisscrossed. The Hall of Fame Game is the first Pre-season game. The Thursday regular season Opener is the Kickoff Game.
