Homer Assessment from the Weekend...

Look at San Fransisco. What good Coach(well coached team), good defense, above average QB, good runing game can do. It is achivable.

Alex smith is a former #1 overall pick who maybe just needed the right coach to bring it out of him. He's playing at a higher level rite now then just average

alex smith that last drive by him was big time...to throw that ball into that window when you can play it safe and kick a fg and go to ot takes stones...if that safety jumps that ball for the game clinching int smith would have never been able to live it down...that was fantastic stuff...

heck he was damn good all game long...all game long...

we would have gotten rolled in the postseason unless we got a cupcake like the bengals or tj yates to give us the game...rolled

and hell we could have lost to cinci also...although i think it would worst case be a heck of a game

I think we take Denver too, Pittsburgh was a wounded animal. I say we had a shot against 4 of the 6 AFC teams. Rolled by maybe Baltimore and likely NE, not 45-10 though.

Wow! what an ending and what a job by Smith. I hope he has at least one more in him.

maybe we take denver...i don't know...we could have gotten tebowed also...pittsburgh was done when roethlisberger lost his ability to extend plays with his legs in the pocket...and houstons zone running scheme would have given us massive fits...not to mention that wade phillips lead defense and pass rush

Either way the games this weekend are going to be great games. I think SanFran and while I hate to even entertain the notion NE advance but I gotta tell ya I am rooting for Baltimore.

Yep.....that game was won on Smiths arm. 300 yds 3 tds and no picks. He played cool as a cucumber at the end of that game. I saw throws he made that were great. Harbaugh gets a lot of credit but Smith played superbly.

I also think Flacco gets undervalued. The guy is a very good qb. Last year he posted a 93 qb rating and the year before that an 88. Hes not an elite qb but i would put him in the second tier group. I would gladly take him as our qb

aldon smith wore out the left side of the saints oline...that bushrod dude was on skates...aldon smith WOW

thats what a top 10 pick pass rush physical talent is supposed to look like...too bad i don't see any kind of physical talent along those lines for us with our top 10 pick this year out there...figures

flacco is underrated...he throws probably the best ball down the field outside the #s...she's always spot on...and he doesn't make the mistakes in the clutch that beat you...unlike so many other qbs

Agree with the thread starter 100%. I live in New England and before our week 16 matchup with NE I guaranteed to many Pats fans we would present a much bigger challenge to the Pats than what was presented in their overhyped matchup with Denver. They thought I was nuts but I was right. There is no doubt in my mind that Matt Moore could have rolled into Foxboro on Saturday night and given the Pats a better game. I also think we give every other AFC playoff team a run for their money. That's what makes this season do discouraging. The 11 Dolphins were not going to be hoisting the Lombardi trophy in early February but they are better than 6-10. The 6-3 run proves that.

I agree that we would have done better than the Broncos, but the Pats would have rolled us too.
Probably 44- 24. Once they going, there is no stopping them.
In game 16, the Pats were asleep and we pounced on them in the first half. In the second half, they tore us to shreds. There are only a couple of teams in the NFL that have any shot to beat the Pats for differing reasons, and all of them are still in the hunt. I would keep an eye on San Francisco. They are for real. If they can get past the Giants, they are legit IMHO. They are relatively unfamiliar to the Pats. It should be entertaining games next week. I think the Pats beat Baltimore easily and meet SF in the super bowl. Just my guess.

You warming to Courtney Upshaw?

i like him...but i don't see jaw dropping athleticism or measurables that you want in a top 10 pick... i like his hips and his lateral agility...he'll run things down on the outside...bull strong...but i want high end pass rush talents and tools with a top 10 pick pass rusher and i'm not sure i see it...lacks ideal height
