To leave the sports bar after the first drive of the game when the Dolphins allowed the Falcons to score a TD on their first drive.

This marks the fifth time we've allowed our opponent to score a TD on the first drive of the game, with us losing all five of those games.

We're 3-0 when we don't allow a TD on their first drive, 0-5 when we do. Jeez man, what's wrong with this defense.

They're good at times and still decent on the whole, but on that first drive they are the worst defense in the NFL.

Yea and 7 games in a row when the other team scores period on the first drive... it is getting pretty pathetic. I wasn't tempted to turn off my tv, but boy was I pissed.

It seems like for each individual game they take a drive or two to get into the tempo and gameplan. Then they settle down and usually get with it.

I thought the weirdest thing was the stat that Miami is 3-0 when they lead AT ANY QUARTER and are 0-5 (now) when they do not have the lead AT ANY QUARTER.

I don't know what to read from that. I would imagine that the team is very emotionally tied to the fact they are leading in any quarter.

Yeah, we are 0-5 when we have lost the coin toss, 3-0 when we've won the toss.

Being down 7-0 right away gets the offense and defense reacting differently than if it took a while to get a 7 point lead.

Imagine what is going through the defense's heads. They know that if they allow the other team to score 20 points, we're probably going to lose. They probably have a goal before the game of allowing only like, 17 points max. Well, allow a TD right away and all the sudden you've got to hold the other team to 10 points over the next 53 or 55 minutes. That is more pressure. They mostly buckle down and do it and play real intense, but then they seem to wear down at the end.

Imagine what the offense thinks seeing the D give up a TD right away. They think, man we've got to score some points today to keep up...and they know that on a good day they're still probably only scoring 24 points.

I thought of your post during their drive. I did feel a bit of trepidation.

Speaking of resisting tempation, I had to resist the temptation to hurl something at the television when Frerotte threw that interception. I know he didn't call the play, but was attempting that throw the smart thing to do? Sorry for hijacking.

I agree with the other parts of your post but I disagree with this. I think our defense has gotten a lot better as the game goes along. Our defense has played very good later in the game.

I think this all has to do with Linehan getting hyper and not running (in the traditional sense) when the team is down 7. He fears that the team can't come back, calls bad plays flailing around, and makes his fear reality.

Its stats like those that sportscasters gets your blood boiling. They do a great job of getting you pissed off before the game really gets going! :)

I have a weird feeling that teams are seeing some type of predictable pattern w/ our D and they are exposing it. I don't know what it is (maybe the blitzing) but something is tipping them off and it determines their plan of attack against us.

You would be justified in doing that. Back to the topic, I didnt have that temptation I was pissed like a mofo but there was no temptation.

They are showing the blitz to early.

Just like on offense, film has revealed our tendencies.
