If there's a definition for ugly one that was it. Team came out flat and it didnt help that the qb went from a pre snap read to no post snap verification on db location when he finished his drop and took his head from the center of the field on the first pass play which resulted in an int. Jamar taylor was literally post snap during the qbs drop shifting laterally inside sitting on the quick slant route. "Welcome to hard rock miami fans where theres an int on the first pass play in the new digs. Come feel the excitement!" brutal...5th year qb i dont care if you are trying to pick up an easy quick 5 yards there you have to verify it post snap or come off it if hes sitting inside.

loved the tempo of the offense...i mean we were at a lightning pace. Oh wait...there was no tempo. Adam gase may have been i guess trying to keep from gassing the d but by letting the browns match personnel on a down by down basis he hopefully has learned that miami isnt loaded with playmakers on offense and its not a mismatch across the board. Tempo is our friend cause with that d no lead is ever gonna be safe.

yeesh. Vance joseph stock is trending down at an alarming rate. Team looked completely unprepared for the tyrelle pryor serving as the qb wildcat and read option offense. The best thing this d does in the run game is run blitz the safeties off the edge to maybe get a tackle for loss. Like seriously that's it. There was soft edges and gaping holes in the middle to gallop thru. Doesnt help when miami is getting nothing from jelani jenkins its starting nickel/sub and base wolb. Hes not making the box or space tackles one on one he needs to make. I think its time to sit him and try and see if 10 days off will help...hes not close to being right. Quddus play since week 1 is trending down at one safety but at least hes making down hill last line of the defense tackles vs ball carriers.

I dont think ive seen an olb group take more misdirection pa bait than miamis. I figured an instinctual mike would help clear that up i figured wrong.

Kiko took a really poor angle on that last td drive 40 yard gallop by the back up the middle...came up too wide and dived at shoe laces. Butler looks lost but thats to be expected i guess this new in the building. Hide him best at strong side lb id say

Cam wake looks good in about a 15 foot box...hes not close to the same space close athlete as prior to injury. To be expected off an achilles but its still noticeable when it comes to his ability to close on the scramble drill.

oh my man byron maxwell. Vance keeps playing you in off and you keep wearing a damn target. Has someone asked vance why the hell on 3rd and long with pre snap set boundary wrs hes not pressing this guy? If its not zone it has to be press. Look at some of that off coverage tape. Right before the half theres a play where vance is off pryor playing an inside leverage technique. The idea is to force the wr wide to his biggest asset his length on the sideline and make the ball go iver his head outside shoulder to be completed. The play starts maxwell gives away the inside immediately from off even with inside leverage damn lucky the qb threw that ball away to the pylon cause it was a walk in td if he throws the in cut. He has some of the worst technique i have seen. Wonder why he gives up the stop route in press where hes always tagging the guy down on the ground at the sticks? Cause even in press he plays such an over the top leverage in the stem that stop routes and back shoulder are always gonna be on the menu. Joseph must be calling all this off to try and help xavien howard who looks damn good in off but im sorry its time to flip the switch and make coverage and technique calls to hide the veteran corner. Even in press his footwork gets out of whack and he gets beat inside and stacked. We just havent paid for it yet but we will. Still miami has no other choice with that guy.

tannehills 2nd int is a function of pre to post snap protection as is whose coming and coverage confusion. Danny shelton was standing up running around in different inside or outside gaps and it threw miami for a major loop. Qb didnt look prepared for it. And it showed post snap. Only good thing he did on the play was feel the backside pressure and shift laterally away from it but it still didnt matter in the end. He had landry underneath for the catch and conversion but that plays totally about confusion pre to post snap.

probably the worst game of pass pro i have seen from jawuan james. Hes had issues at left tackle forced there due to attrition prior but nothing like the consistent issues he had sunday vs the browns. Is he playing hurt or something? He caught more than he punched and was beaten by strength and on his outside shoulder unable to get to things laterally he normally does.

Run game is like grinding teeth. Watching it hurts even. Kenyan drake off tackle or cut it up inside when its no longer there. Ajayi running into walls. Its not for a lack of trying to get things going gase showed a bunch of different looks he ran it out of and still with marginal results. Lack of tempo in the home opener kills me. Steen doesnt get to much outside in space in the run game...in that regard we miss pouncey especially with all this off tackle and wide stuff we are trying to run with scat back skill sets

doubt with steens injury we see much of it on a short week thursday. Speaking of that miami plays like it did sunday we will get our doors blown off. I mean beat the hell down. Oc and dc need to wake up. If we gonna go down lets go down guns blazing. We were a missed fg at the end of regulation from me throwing in the towel on 2016. We got a gift from the football gods. Are we gonna die a slow death or are we gonna rally around it?

route concepts look good...lots of vertical double moves. I even saw a stop then wheel route to landry. Like the route concepts. During that 4 minute o at the end of the game tied miami ran stacked trips on repeat on one drive. Every one of those routes trips side was run into coverage. Protection was failing us things were falling apart fast.

in ot miami came out with a nice misdirection pa to sims for a chunk gain. I guarantee you if jordan cameron is in sims place there cameron doesnt get that much space to operate in. The backside lb took the bait and we got a much needed big gain. After that dion threw a crushing block on the edge to give ajayi the corner and a walk in game winner td. Thats the value of an in line tight end folks. They sell run and they seal in the run game.

Really nice route by landry on the deep drop pa the play prior for a 30 yard gain. He sold the in cut jamar taylor took the bait and tanny just prior to contact without even setting his feet due to wide pressure from both sides turned a potential disaster into a big play.

i will close with there are some seriously ugly trends right now with the defense that good qbs and ones with more timing and ability to read the defenses mail will seriously exploit if vance joseph doesnt offset. I can absolutely see a bottom 10 finish defense now if things stand pat. Press the damn dbs.

offensively we missed a golden opportunity to work no huddle tempo sunday. One we likely wont get due to attrition thursday night. Thats just as frustrating as any one score ball game vs a mashed up cleveland.

Good writeup, even if your outlook for the Bengals game is grim. I agree that we need up tempo offense and press coverage with Maxwell.

I also wanted to point out that Dion Sims threw a great downfield block on Landry's touchdown. I think Sims getting the start might actually be a blessing for this offense.

How was Billy Turner in your opinion?

Here's what I'm not getting; didn't we draft Howard and acquire maxwell for the purpose of press man coverage. I understand experience is shaky across the board but I was under the impression they would do trial by fire and let them live and learn from mistakes

Very little run but gave up a pressure at right tackle where you have to understand with the play call the qbs deep drop and not allow the wide edge deep corner...front side miami had gray trying to block an olb and he was struggling too but that plays about selling the run action taking the deep drop off it and taking a shot down the field...lucky for us the qb didnt wait to set his feet or thats a sandwich job...turner has to keep the backside clean there

The protection would have been better all game had we played off tempo...it started falling apart in that 4th quarter. Gase outsmarted himself i think...urbik also gave up a quick pressure when he came in. So fingers crossed i guess

Quddus's coverage skills are shameful.

No way around it, Maxwell just stinks.

I do think that Ajayi and Drake will end up being alright for us once the run blocking starts to get on track which I expect it will.

It really sucks when you're expecting the other team to convert 3rd and longs.

I did not like Gases play calling, agree with you hoops that he has a lot of cool route combos but some situational play calls were head scratching at points.

We need to give Devante an occasional deep shot if he's manned up.

This is the first game in Long time that Reshad didn't play well.

Nice and fair write up. We've been told we're going to run an up tempo offense now for a few years and we're still waiting for it. Maxwell could be gone after this year. The oline will be looking for another OT and two guards. Maybe time to get guys that really want it bad(Steen) instead of wasting high picks on them. We'll need two new starting LB's next year(we needed 3 this year)and another corner. I'm ok with Simms starting at TE but need to get another one ready. Too many times you wanna run a two TE combo out there to only carry one on game day.

Ozzy rules!!

Gray could be an asset as a receiver

Rashad didn't play well? He was about the only one that did other than Suh. The defense sucked but it wasn't Jones

Yes he could. Need to give him a chance and Duarte could be on the 53 soon

Wonder if the Dolphins should call up the Titans and get a retread in Anthony Fasano?

We should never have let Fasano go, but we certainly wont trade for him now he is old.

Is Howard our best corner Hoops? Long term what do you think his upside is? Being our best corner atm says very little

I think next draft we need to go defense with the first 3 picks...for as bad as the offensive struggles have been, we do have talented. Players to work with...defenaively its a different story, we have a serious lack of talent at cb and lb and we could even use a stud defensive end. We need playmakers on defense...watching our d then watching the broncos d is like night and day, were horrible.
