What a fantastic home win...the crowd was electric a miami team that in the past would have folded up like a cheap suit when things went bad competed and got a much needed win

i think it goes without saying miamis meal ticket is oline health...these last 2 games should have provided ample evidence of how critical that unit is...pouncey on the pivot getting out to the 2nd level and in space and tunsil playing what i think is a pro bowl caliber left guard...hes doing work in the run game and short of a few pass protect assignment confusion a wall...he is a flat out stud...unit as a whole really complementing each other well and handling pass offs these last 2 weeks...jawaun james playing thru the whistle bushrod doing work...albert playing a very solid left tackle...stay healthy PLEASE

jay ajayi sets a tone that mirrors marshawn lynch...hes downhill with authority and bad intentions and running thru contact...he probably is the team mvp these last 3 weeks...keep ballin son...that backed up at our own 2 yard line read of the bushrod lb block and redirect at the los and then stiff arm a safety on the converting tacklers and run thru contact and then switch the ball to the inside arm in full gallop to try to stiff arm darby was fantastic stuff...hes seeing the backside hes patient to the outside and then putting his foot down with authority and getting north and south...mvp at the bye week i think so

miami ran a lot of 12 today i have to think in those looks without a seam threat tight end and landry and stills the only 2 wrs teams are gonna start really selling out vs the run from those looks...miami made no attempts to scheme marquise gray open in this one...doesnt look to me like they are comfortable with his route running relative to coverage played yet...no real route concepts for him

i think devantae parker only playing in 11 looks says that gase isnt satisfied with his play to date. Not having him out there in 12 which miami played a ton of vs the bills i see as a demotion...hes just not doing enough...we need the dvp we saw that last 6 weeks of 2015 to show up after the bye.

adam gase with some strong personnel packages and play calling sunday...saw an extra ot package saw landry motion into the backfield and then flare out to the flat on the 2 point conversion saw jakeem grant motion across the formation on the only play he was in on offense the defense alert to it and we hand the ball off inside to damien williams who ran thru 2nd level contact and was carried by james and jarvis landry into the endzone

james and jarvis played thru the whistle...the downfield blocking by the wrs effort wise was terrific...jarvis landry runs 50 yards down the field on that ajayi goalline run to try and get a piece of darby and keep ajayi upright...thats effort...

offensively miami shot itself in the foot in the first half...from a curl route by stills on 3rd down where the qb throws it where he should be coming back to the ball instead of flowing inside late to a blown lb blitz protection to a terrible launch and head and neck high hit by landry on the safety...settling for fgs when points are at a premium...

special teams with drake and williams both blowing assignments resulting in a short field after a blocked punt...one which the bills would capitalize on with a td

ryan tannehill wishes he had a few balls back...the deep underthrow to stills chief among them...ball hung up in the air on him...the most accurate criticism i can see of the qb is the need to have more active feet once he finishes his drop...well i can say for this week at least he did...he took one sack on a max protect play he had no chance on and other than that if he felt pressure he took off with it...maybe someone is getting in his head...converted a 3rd down with his legs and limited the sticks exposure by getting back to the los every other time...threw a dart 3rd and 13 between multiple zone defenders on the first drive...threw into double coverage down the boundary to landry on a ball he shouldnt have thrown...had a bail the pocket laterally full gallop conversion to landry...when flushed missed a couple balls in space high with guys on his heels...plays he can make...

but that was a boss 3rd and 6 game still in question back shoulder thrown inside before the safety can get over there relative to the corner leverage play to stills to ice it...great redirect by stills...2 defenders crashing into eachother...thats the same play i have seen jordy nelson and aaron rodgers prior to injury make many times...throw it inside and under where only the wr has a chance at it and if he redirects and catches it safety and corner may take eachother out for a walk in td...great play

buffalo with a lot of move the pocket stuff from taylor...expected but miami was giving up easy yards on the boundary with how we played it and easy reads for the qb...

byron maxwell pitch and catch yet again if we wasnt getting beat deep with eyes in the backfield he was taunting if wasnt taunting he was holding in the end zone got away with it also a few times and taking false steps giving away the inside on a ball we were lucky was thrown behind the wr...what a terrible add

bobby mccain still getting murdered out of cuts...gives away the only thing you dont want to the quick inside to reggie bush...if you are a slot corner and you cant cover running back slot route tree you cant cover anyone...id like to see benwikere after the bye get some game looks there

off the radar guy i thought showed well strong side lb butler...filled gaps well was physical and provided contain while engaged on a wide mccoy run forcing him inside...solid for what they have asked of him...played well in short yardage

its a damn good thing iaq made that tackle on gillislee on the long run cause he almost split the safeties there...michael thomas had whiffed iaq made a huge stop...cause that had pay dirt written all over it

mario williams flashing what hes capable of...total disrespect on that late first down wide run they tried to mario...expecting a lax effort and an easy corner to turn he split it and grabbed the ball carrier for a huge 10 yard loss setting the tone on the possession and sure enough a 3 and out the last play on which he blasted taylor throwing it away out of bounds...

2 weeks in a row andre branch has brought a serious bull rush to the left tackle from a wide 9 alignment...hes got left tackles on skates...

cam wake jumping snap counts and showing his old get off and initlal step quickness...explosive

taking the season in quarters a 1-3 start followed by a possible 3-1 if we can get by the jets after the bye is fantastic improvement...rock bottom vs the titans this team has responded and the work they are putting in is paying off on the field...need more discipline to not beat ourselves with stupid penalties and selfish play at times and need to get some guys back from injury who can provide quality play like culliver for example and underachievers like devantae parker to find that next gear but things look to be trending up in dolphin land and if we can get to .500 at the half way point i will take it after our start

at the bye week assessment:

plus grades for adam gase the playcaller and the head coach

plus grade for jay ajayi

plus grade for cam wake and andre branch

plus grade for suh and kiko

plus grade for tunsil and albert and pouncey

plus grade for jarvis landry

plus grade for xavien howard

When Miami got pinned back deep i thought it was over. Man what a run by ajayi. If stills could have sustained his block just a bit longer he's going yard. Imo that was the play of the game. Buffalo started stacking tunsil and Albert which is a sign of respect. Outside of Jordan Cameron dvp has been my biggest disappointment so far. As you said Miami needs him to step up and prove what he did last year wasn't a fluke.

Also im looking forward to more of grant even if he doesn't get a carry he still gets attention

Color me impressed. Two consecutive weeks of solid football. Dominant line play has been my favorite difference to watch, especially on offense; not used to them apples.

Tannehill has been smart, showed some great poise and presence, and made some pure money throws in key situations recently as well.

Defense was always a two year project but they showed good promise in playing to their capabilities lately. It was fun watching Philiips flip his stance moments before the snap and crash down while we stunted around him.

Still even more even satisfying is two weeks of a healthy and cohesive o-line.

Agreed! What did you think about Lippett yesterday? I watched the game but it was online and fuzzy and I couldn't always see who was who. Seemed like he did pretty well again. He seems to be turning into a solid, consistent 2nd cb. Wouldn't it be amazing if Howard came back and Culliver had already locked up the #1 spot and Howard had to battle an improved Lippett for that 2nd spot? Here's to hoping Culliver can provide a boost to our depth!

Do you think you might have jumped the gun on Gase a little to early? Not trolling, serious question.

No plus grade for Tannehill? Who are you and what have you done to Hoops!?!?

I meant to talk about that late phillips shift and how much it effects blocking schemes

Vance joseph deserves an atta boy for that one

But the soft corner coverage is probably the most frustrating thing...i do get it vs legit run games but we got to stop letting marginal pocket qbs have easy yards and make them beat us with accurate timed throws off not simple reads

I like the scrape lb stuff we work too

As for xavien howard hes been the best corner in the building to date...hes far exceeded expectations as a rookie

Usually you see this type of change in attitude after a bye (Ala last year) but man gase has these guys playing aggressive. Nice writeup.

I expect a 2nd half up tick for tannehill...i really do...but 7 and 7 in 7 games isnt gonna warrant a plus grade

Hoops - glad you addressed this one because I honestly thought he got lucky there and that it was a bad pass. It was a lot to assume he was back-shouldering that into double coverage, and after the play I felt it could have easily been a pick at the worst possible time. I'll buy it though - I figured it was either one of his best passes or worst passes ever, just couldn't decide.

I was calling it like I was seeing it. I was speaking my mind while all everyone else had to say was "just wait". So be it that success has been found somewhat early and had in successive weeks. Gase also flipped what he was doing, admitted to errors (and just so happened to be what I was bitching and moaning about minus the Turner release), has won because of it, and now hopefully he's breading the confidence that comes with winning.

I'm glad for it.

Hey Hoops, whats your take on Ajayi's overall talent? He didn't show this kind of vision or jump side step last season. What's your take on this? I heard the announcer's say something about getting that move from playing soccer.

Great read after a great win. I saw how much attention Grant got just being out there. Thats a big thing. I really loved the 2 pt conversion with Landry.

I've been surprised by Branch lately. Donald Butler hasnt been god awful replacing Misi.

It's really a damn shame that Reshad Jones is on IR now that the team is finally trending up and playing good defense.. poor dude.

Hoops what did you think of Landry's flag on the hit on williams?

whether the target is the shoulder or not he left his feet and launched and drove into the head and neck of the safety even if it was with his shoulder making the contact...totally unnecessary and bush league...should have kicked him out of the game

the unsportsmanlike he got for spinning the ball I did not agree with...cause when he catches big plays like that he spins the rock...difference is this time he just happened to be getting up on the bills side line

bad call...but the Williams hit was potential career ender stuff...hines ward like
