hoops scoops...fins falcons

With you on that hoops. Cinci will cut a RB who is better than what we have, for sure. They have serious depth there.

My issue with Taliferro in college was consistency. Even within a game. But the talent is there when he turns it on. No doubt.

I fear for our rbs more than even our lbs. We can mask our crap lb play to some degree (not helped by Jones suspension) but we need a functioning run game badly. Hope to hell Moreno pulls a Brent Grimes and gives us a year of his best game.
Behind knowshon and miller I would agree with you but those guys are capable backs. LB isnt showing capable

i can also tell you i watched 12 teams play so far and the rb talent some of those teams have trumps ours by a mile...

benjarvis green ellis looks like has been supplanted by jeremy hill in cinci it wouldnt surprise me if the bengals cut him but i dont' know his salary info and its not a real fit for us

lorenzo talieffero for the ravens i'd cut daniel thomas right now for that...that kid looked good the other night...4th round pick for the ravens i wanted him he's damn sound in pass pro also at least at the senior bowl but he showed some burst and pop i didn't expect

tons of rbs first year too making waves

Was salivating for RB's this year and we didn't pull the trigger. Even as bad as the Falcons were with lots of issues similar to ours like O line issues, they managed to get a real good one in the draft. Talieffero was on a lot of people's radar. Maybe next year.

heres the problem with 99% of the post HOOPS.

all these guys your talking about being slow to the play, not reacting, to much cushion, etc.... ARE VETS!!!

they have NOTHING to prove in a glorified mini camp "game" that are the first pre season game's of the season. same yawners every season.

rookies and kids that may take a starting job from someone are the ones who need to shine and sell out body and soul, not 10 year vets. the camp reports on these players are ANYTHING BUT what happened in atl. now, DION JORDAN? another story. i didnt want him at all for the very reasons you pointed out. his rep in college was, "wheres the sacks" for this so called , big time pass rush line backer and having iffy instincts. and he brought this all with him to the nfl and proved the pundits correct!! and even though he is a vet on paper, only by a hair. i didnt buy into his week excuse about "i didnt know the substance was bad. a trainer recommended it and i had no idea it could get me banned. i let down my team mates, etc....". . so, HE is a guy who should have come out swinging, not only making up for hurting the team, both players AND coaches, but he is still proving his nfl worth which is in MAJOR question! if anyone should have came on like gang busters in atl, it was JORDAN. didnt like what i saw all the way around. jeff ireland... FAIL!!

i think MISI is just fine and has all the tools, the reaction time and intelligence to EXCELL at the position. he is another guy i am sure the staff has whispered hey, we know where your at, dont get carted off. same with finnegan. he is the STAR at camp and is VITAL for us this year. do you really want him playing like its the superbowl in the first, means nothing for vets, 1st pre season game? and i am sure most of that cushion was designed by the coaches for being just that, a CUSHION to keep guys like finnegan from unwarranted injuries.

again, this was for guys like thomas and and turner and davis and trip and james and the damie-ans and the hazels and cones to prove things and put in that extra motor.

come talk to me in the 3rd pre season game. and even then, not the "tell all". i really dont want any more injuries to vets and even in that dress rehearsal, i dont want superbowl performances and "risk" effort from them. in the 3rd game, i am more interested in seeing more of the lazor offense and how it all looks in a "game planned " situation.

I agree with this. Good write up but I honestly feel its WAY too early to assess what we saw on 1 whole drive in the first preseason game. Very hard to assess on 4 minutes of the first game.

I don't buy the lbs are saving themselves stuff...the effort was not lacking they didnt loaf to the ball...they just don't see it fast enough...yes it was one drive but the same issues these vets had last year were present vs the falcons...not to mention vet lbs should not be dropping within 10 feet of each other although I will admit misi is learning a new position...you can still see his struggles in that much space at mike though...it has nothing to do with half assing

It's too early to tell, for sure, but I sure don't see how the coaches would tell these guys not to try. Why put them in there at all, then? I also don't see how not playing as hard will keep players healthier. Most injuries come from other players hitting you in the wrong place, so unless you avoid contact altogether -which would be pathetic- you're at risk.

The whole point of these games is to get the players game-ready, get used to the hitting and game-speed. Going through the motions would serve no purpose. And that's assuming that your job is truly safe, which may or may not be true.

This is excellent thanks hoops! I loved that first drive and it was without Wallace, Hartline, Clay and Pouncey. I totally agree on Dion Jordan to my untrained eye he looked the same, slow off the ball and no pass rush moves, very disappointing.

I liked what I saw from James, just curious I've read on here Martin was a better prospect is that crap? I think it is.

I think there is a lot of truth in this, and its the reason I'm tempering my excitement for what our own offense did. Both starting defenses didn't just play vanilla but safe too.

And is it just me or was Jordan being out there on specials in the fourth quarter not a good sign?

Here's the problem with what NRA suggests:

We have already seen these linebackers play 16 games in Kevin Coyle's defense. We know Dannell Ellerbe can't diagnose a running play.

You think he is suddenly going to change that in two weeks?

I see Tripp, McClain and Jenkins starting before it's all said and done.

Way to early to expect those 2 to be good, I have hope but that's all it is at this point... This sort of talk reminds me of the 7/11 Hogan and such...

Hoops, very overly negative. I couldn't wait to read your write up and all it did was bring me down. It's the FIRST pre-season game and that needs to be taken into consideration before you rip our LB core to shreds. I think you will be happily surprised by their play this year. The new LB Coach knows exactly what he has and doesn't have and will scheme accordingly. How can you rip Misi in his first real game at Mike? You don't know what he was coached to do or not do. Take it easy and try to lighten up. The games don't even count for now. Bradys' gonna murder us on opening day. He didn't murder us last year and we're a better team now than we were then with better coaches on both sides of the ball. You can take your finger off the panic button! We still have time to add players so all the cards aren't even dealt yet. When the games count and we're getting our butts hammered I'll worry but I'm not about to flip out in pre-season. I think you need to let out some line.

Don't you know?!?!? It's much easier to complain n moan about the small stuff like punctuation and grammar than actually taking the time read the post so one can actually appreciate the effort the OP puts into these write-ups.

Especially when it might contradict one's own biases & perception. :d-day:

This assessment by hoops is on individual technique and ability's. Something you failed in your long post to answer.

Our lbs struggled last year, so much so, changes were made. Expecting a tiger to change his stripes is naive and wishful blather. I commend hoops on his time and effort. And wish you hope and change guys would see what he's saying and not sit around and bash, with no real answers.

One preseason game. That's all it took for Bill Lazor to convince you Hoops. I'm glad to see you are starting to believe.

Come on, you know the talent level on those UVa teams he had and you know the mandate his head coach had to play the Hampton High 'Bama transfer. Despite all of that he turned them into a credible offense. Given the close talent levels in the NFL, quality at the QB and WR positions on the Dolphins and lots or offseason resources to build his team with his guys ... you had to know he would be successful.

I realize we (Dolphins and UVa) have had more than our share of false dawns lately ... but Lazor is a real talent.
