well we got out of there with a win...wasn't pretty but i'll take it...you're not always gonna win pretty...not a whole lot i'm taking away from this one...let's get to it

i can only imagine what was being said about the qb during todays game especially in the first half...well let me break it down for ya drive by drive...

1st drive sack left guard colledge smoked tannehill tried to step up in the pocket no dice sack 3 and out...

2nd drive sack left guard smoked again off read option play action clean rusher tannehill never even gets to his first progression hit when he sets up next play hartline drops a in cutter worried about contact head high that would have put us in manageable 3rd and 7 after big first down sack loss...3 and out

END OF FIRST QUARTER

3rd drive play call screen to clay in the flat behind the los gains 1 yard 2nd and 9 immediate pressure off pa does good job to just throw it away contact on his lower legs in the process 3rd and 9 misses clay high corner route muddy pocket...just overthrown 3 and out

4th drive in fg range shuffles laterally nicely to find space fires dart to hartlines front shoulder bounces off his pad incomplete should have been first down in red zone FG

HALF

5th drive 3rd quarter 3rd and 8 shifts into a max protect with clay and thomas on each side of him recognizing the all out blitz jailbreak tries to step up inside sack officials miss the holding of the slot wr landry on the play being grabbed and pulled all the way down the field in the stem of his route...

6th drive missed hold on wallace on in cutter 3rd and 5 hold pulled wallace wide and off the correct angle to the ball incomplete punt as a result...correct read correct decision wallace wins inside and is held and pushed wide

7th drive 3rd and 7 backed up at the like 5 yard line 50 yard dime after being moved off his preferred launch point climbing forward vs wide pressure on both sides and on the huff throws a pin point accuracy ball down the sideline...BOOM drive results in TD pass off nice play design vs zone coverage with movement of the wr inside the formation and then flowing back outside to the pylon

8th drive red zone INT off read option pa vs what looks like zone...i can count the number of red zone ints by this qb on one hand in the last 2 and a half years i'm not gonna worry about that one...nor am i gonna make a big deal about it...lb got a hand in there tipped ball int...maybe had he held his eyes inside a smidgen longer that doesnt happen but off that play action you kinda do have to rise and stare at the target...not much time to go from eyes in the center of the field to the target and hold lbs there...but anyways i'm not sweating that one either way

9th drive rediculous climb forward with a defender basically hanging off of you and drop a dime over the zone under and over coverage to sims for a major league qb play and gain...the announcers were right that doesnt happen with tannehill his first year for sure and maybe a lot of last year...when i say he climbs the pocket and steps up better in it now and there is growth there i mean it...hell of a play...drive results in a FG

last drive qb keep read option major gain and game over...

that's it in a nutshell the qb played fine in this one...jax had the 2nd leading team in the league sack # wise at a whopping 23 sacks i guess i can see why after playing them...they sure looked like they get after qbs...i dont even know what tannehills numbers were but the qb while he missed a few throws for sure played a solid game...

ok on to other players...absolutely horrid mike lb play...trusnick is a disaster...caught in no mans land on a bortles read option keeper what the hell was that??? taking false steps all over the place...you know your mike lb is playing some terrible ball when he flows to the play side presnap a few steps based on the formation and after the snap the damn dt flows down the los mitchell on a end around and gets there before the clean mike lb does...are you kidding me??? got pulled for shepherd for a series or two but that may have been a planned thing...didnt think shepherd played much better either personally...why is trusnick on the field in the sub package??? i mean how much you want to give away soft zone with him out there???

jelani jenkins goat on the fake the reverse end around 45 yard gain took the reverse cheese all the way i dont think he's found the ball yet on that play...forced a fumble flew to the ball got beat and bailed out by louis delmas on the pick 6 play...overall though i dont really think i could ask for much more than what he's giving us...

louis delmas with a great pick 6 man coverage drops off his assignment cause he's got his eyes on the qb undercuts the route that jenkins was late to recognize...great play...a play chris clemons would have never made...instincts and awareness at play there...bortles gets banged for that pick but that's a tough one for me he's got the inside crosser wide open vernon closes on him in a hurry he cant expect delmas to come off that man coverage like that and undercut that ball...maybe if vernon wasnt closing for contact so much he sees it but that's bang bang play...

olivier vernon was all over the place in this one...beautiful spin move sack brought back by a correct illegal contact call on delmas...blocked a fg got to the perimeter vs the run...i dont know what he got credit for stat wise but he played damn well

very happy with jamar taylors work in this one...yeah he missed a tackle short of the sticks on a ball thrown where we want it 3rd down just make the tackle and they punt and i'm aware he blew a pass off vertical coverage jumping the seam instead of staying outside for the long td but he was around the ball all game and showed much better ball awareness than we saw in the preseason...and he was physical...like what i'm seeing there...always had the physical tools but the ball awareness is showing up now...huge for him in this scheme

god dang kicker almost gets a 47 yarder blocked low trajectory and hits the damn upright on a 29 yarder...i cringe whenever i see him trot on the field

dion jordan well they sure didnt limit his run in this one right into the rotation run at de spelling vernon on first down and playing in the sub package...looked a little lighter also...keep that weight off...better lateral movement than we saw in the preseason...

derrick shelby pretty darn solid 2 deep de in the rotation...he doesnt get a lot of snaps but the ones he gets he makes the most of...

not sure why i barely saw any mccain sub package drop zone and attack the qb if he breaks the tackle box in this one...i guess jordan made his run that much more limited...i love that package though and i want to see more of it...

lots of blitzing of the dbs either in the slot or both safeties...like it...rookie qb bring the heat on his ass...

going forward 4-3 at or above 500 at the half way point need to get this chargers game sunday come out with urgency cause this game may well decide who gets a wildcard spot and who goes home if it comes down to that...

Thanks. Good to know Taylor's coming along. It's hard to see that with my unpracticed eyes. Do we have any other options for Mike?

Oh, and do you think our run defense to start the game was so loose because we were trying to be in position for picks from the rookie?

i think your run defense is loose cause your mike lb is horrid...more than anything else...misi may not be a great lateral athlete but he's missed something serious right now...if this team had a legit mike lb this defense would be ruthless...misis physicality is missed and he's better to the perimeter than trusnick who's just awful everywhere unless it's straight ahead poa stuff...

miami seemed to want to run with a 2 lb set trusnick and jenkins and walk up a safety and use michael thomas in the slot on early downs a lot yesterday and i think that played into the run d results also...more downhill issues even with a smaller back like the former michigan qb than we are used to...but more than anything trusnicks a disaster

How did I know you were going to rip on Trusnik?

Good gravy, he's bad.

If I recall correctly Trusnic has been our mike for a majority of our snaps this year and we are 2nd in yards per attempt.

Not impressed with review. Several pages on offense all to say qb played ok. First mention of defense is what they did wrong.

The defense won the game and should be a majority of review imo

Good job and as someone else showed Tannehill isnt that inconsistent anymore compared to the other good QBs. He is fine still my QB

tell it to Armando.

Hoops is breaking down individual play(s).

I must be a different breed because I was not disappointed like many yesterday.

Yeah, the offense sputtered, but that happens in this league when you have a hungry team at home with a good front 7.

The pick 6's gave me comfort but I know we are a better second half team so things would change when we got the ball back.

They were not scoring even though they had many opportunities. The last time I felt pressure was before Jenkins stripped the ball and we got it. That was it for me. Then the offense took it from there to end up in Victory formation. We beat down the beat down.

I know it's your style, but your complete disregard for grammar leaves me confused in some of these reviews. Anyways, thanks for this, as always.

2 defensive TD's in one game is the main story.

In fairness to hoops and you... you both have a point. The 14 points from the defense were a MAJOR contribution. On the other hand, the defense allowed the JAX to stay on the field and kept us in absolute crap field position for the entire first half.

I thought the bad play of Starks and Odrick this game made Trusnick look worse than he is, which is average at best.
