i said before the game that the jets were a one dimensional team and unless coyle was asleep at the wheel our d would dominate them...well he was just that asleep early on...miami tried to run with a 8 man box but the 8 man box consisted of 2 lbs and a safety while the jets countered with i form and lead full back and single back power like downhill sets...miami got exploited the entire first quarter as a result...the only time miami came out in a 3 lb package early with wheeler the 3rd backer was against 2 tight end sets...after about 200 yards of rushing in the second quarter coyle decided he had had enough and went to the extra lb being the 8th man in the box or base looks and the tides changed...had coyle gone to this early we would have snuffed out that jets run game...it's that simple really

that doesnt mean that we didnt give up some yardage on end around action etc because of not staying at home de's crashing down inside giving soft corners cause we did...dion jordan multiple times got caught slanting down inside for back side pursuit to the opposite side and left a coming around tight end to lead the back around the corner on the soft edge...hell cam wake did also...miami was slanting down it's de's and stunting when it didnt need to...what it left was a pull around guard in space against our only stay at home edge defender a safety and soft edges into our second level...

i dont get why miami slants and stunts it's dline so much i counted 4 or 5 plays where the dt just flat stunted himself right out of the hole and there was no lb due to play design and gap fill...i'm sure miami expected the opposite side de to flow laterally down inside and fill those backside gaps or make tackles for short yardage but miamis de's in the first half became hesitant cause of all the reverse and end around action up front...

anyways that's why they ran the ball down our throats...2nd half for the most part different ball game...backside de stayed home took away the wide boundary no soft corners...miami also was prepared for the geno smith designed runs de's did a good job to maintain rush lanes and redirect back inside to the qb for short gains out of those looks...more 3rd and longs in the second half able to get off the field with pressure and blitz package...and miami did not help rj stanford at all...i mean none...they couldn't with the way the jets were running the ball in the first half...20 straight runs at one point...that's baffling...how would you like to be the qb that has one on ones all over the damn place and because of that run game all the pa playbook is wide open and be basically muzzled cause they dont trust you to make the right decision and execute...crazy

alright game ball on d for me goes to reshad jones who was physical and flying all over the place and snuffed out the run...hard hitting enforcer...big pick at the end of the game on a great down the seam under coverage from jelani jenkins who was also damn good...some hesitation still and missed tackles in the hole when clean from the lbs but all in all i thought misi and jenkins played very well...jenkins is a baller...he may get washed out in the run game or fill the wrong gap at times but he's physical and he's all out on every snap...both the safeteties brought it in this one also

the next 2 weeks we wont face one dimensional teams but we will face similar heavy run game ones coyles gonna have to be on it from the jump or we won't be able to overcome it due to facing a crappy qb like we could in this one...miami also needs either finnegan or taylor or both ready to roll...rj stanford against torrey or steve smith is a disaster...

good decision to pooch kick and kick away from percy harvin...dont let him beat you make them have to put drives together to score...will need that next week vs jacoby jones also...preferrably not kicking the damn thing out of bounds and giving up the 40 yard line

on offense i have two players of the game...dion sims for his work as a blocker and receiver in this one...miami ask him to do alot coming across the formation post snap and picking up clean olbs and he not only got there he stoned both times the man so we could work vertical play action...hands to the face both times by the clean edge players no call i have no idea what officials are looking at it's plain as day right there in their vision and we didnt seem to get any free yards off them...anyways dion sims take a bow...the only td we scored 3rd down and short in the tight red he turned a man in the hole and lamar miller cut up inside for the 2 yards needed...on the td he came out and picked up calvin pace and owned him...well done...soft hands in the pass game found the holes in that zone and instead of carrying his route into coverage made big time plays on that final fg game winning drive

shelley smith should be the starting left guard...i have no idea what the musical chairs is about there but smith outplayed darryn colledge who struggled with strength all over the place and frankly smiths the better player period...smith paved the way in the run game also on that 3rd and short play and then on the td by miller...it's a no brainer...stout in pass pro if you have as soft a center as satele is you need some physical force at the guard slots...

lamar miller with good vision and burst thru the hole...a couple times the right tackle tried to reach a lb at the second level whiffed but miller cut it back up inside off that edge for big chunk yardage gains...another guy that played a hell of a game...

daniel thomas blew a blitz pickup against a mike lb for a sack...big loss put us in 2nd and 20...saw a lot of long downs and distances...

satele struggled mightily against strength...the nose harrison ate his lunch pretty much all game long...walked back into the qb for a sack unable to move him at all in space even and struggled vs the second team nose as well...satele and colledge with ugly games

boy oh boy did the qb see a ton of drop zone...i mean a ton...3 man rush pressure gets home ball must come out drop 8 cant happen but it did...i bet the jets played more than 90 percent zone against us and really the qb didnt have much opportunity to push the ball down the field...mike wallace has to come back to the ball on the almost int that route should be run to depth and then the wr come back 2 yards to the ball if he does that instead of sits down and waits that almost pick never happens...wallace relies on his speed to open hips of dbs even at depth too much...he needs to understand that he doesnt gear down and turn with the best precision and on plays where a db has that much depth come back to the damn ball...the only time i saw a blitz and true man coverage and i mean the only time where we had an opportunity to make a vertical play tannehill read it right had wallace on a safety corner route balls placed perfectly wallace throws up one freaking hand and it drops...that's rediculous the effort by the wr on that play...can you hot dog it anymore than that??? td off the board

tanny never saw the drop lb pace buzzing under the deep out to wallace...presnap he's lined up inside of the slot just off the los and he just drops out after...when they dropped that ball i said should have taken advantage of that one cause he won't give you another and he didnt the rest of the game...

the int a function of immediate pressure from everywhere pretty much and just trying to get the ball out to his check down the back in the flat while being hit low in his legs and not getting enough on it...fluke play i wont spend much time on it...nice job by the d to get the stop after and not allow points...

3rd and 13 they blitz and play a drop zone in the intermediate and deep level only play tannehill has is the deep out to wallace but he's got to wait for him to work behind the route in front of it with a db draped on that receiving option and he correctly given that space throws it high uncatchable...expected man to man got zone still found the right option but too tight a window would have been a flat rediculous throw had he completed it vs that coverage...

big time throws vs zone looks to sims on that final fg drive...i mean big time...threw one ball between inside defenders in the hole like a boss...sims catches gains some rac in fg range...gruden even said that may be a signature moment for the qbs career...

last fg drive in the red zone he's got drop zone on both the second and third down plays set up by yet another penalty...he took the underneath correctly imo...gruden said he missed wallace on the corner route but i disagree he sees the drop zone presnap and even early post snap had tannehill taken his head to that side the drop inside db would have flowed over there and made that a at best difficult play...take the points...by the time wallace turned around the ball was already out of tannys hand...

post game did anyone catch what trent dilfer said to tanny as they were going to commercial during the interview??? "skys the limit" he was referring to tannehills ceiling as a pro qb off tape study...where have we heard that before??? i wonder

offense got held back by some penalties in this one...an awful lot of 2nd and 16 etc as a result...need to clean up some things...

overall a tough hard fought road win...a game we made tougher than we needed to...miami got a ton of help this week i mean 5 games all went in our favor for our playoff hopes that never happens glad that we were able to capitalize

looking to this week baltimore runs a lot of sets with matt elam covering the slot as a result of db attrition i guess it is man to man or just not having any quality dbs to put out there...miami needs to create personnel packages that put the ravens in those looks and exploit the hell out of them with landry who has become tannehills favorite and most dependable wr...elam is wearing a target in that coverage...be ready for a physical punch you in the mouth bunch sunday...it's coming...but this ravens team d unlike a lot of recent ones has holes to exploit

buckle up boys we are in for quite a ride in december!!!

Yeah... saw Wake cheat inside and get cleared out of his lane at least 5 times.

Interior D Line also was getting blown out leaving the pull Guard 1v1 on LB's.

First half run D was a disaster.

Zero clue why they let Sturgis back on the bus. Should of just handed him the pink slip before he got back in the locker room.

No idea why the musical chairs at LG.

Wallace with the drops. :bobdole:

Some of that was stunting and some was cheating. Both DE's were guilty of cheating because we were getting gashed inside so bad, which then led to us getting gashed outside. It was a train wreck.

they threw some different looks at us and yeah our de's started cheating down inside for sure but by and large it was coyle not having the right personnel on the field vs what the offense was showing us that was the biggest problem...i was screaming at the tv get out of these 2 lb looks when they are not gonna throw the damn ball period...it was baffling to me...and it wasnt like we were trying to give stanford any help thus the looks we were in...cause he was on an island all game

any time that fb came on the field miami should have been in base personnell...but it was more than just those looks...we didnt do a good job of matching their personnel...which is so upsetting cause they just dont have a passing game...we could have lights outed that offense from the get go...forced them in 3rd and long and choked em out with the pressure packages...instead we thought we could get by with 2 lbs and a safety...i'm just glad he figured it out

a solid qb would have torched us with all that run game was opening up for them...single high all over the place

What do you make of our refusal to run the ball in the first half? I couldn't believe that we only called 3 runs.

I honestly feel like the coaches mailed it in and spent their time on Baltimore this week. At least, I hope so.

Good thing you weren't here for the game thread. The Tannehill haters were in full throttle. Tannehill didn't have a great game by any means but they bashed him for the throw to Wallace, which Wallace tried to one hand, bashed him for not throwing deep, bashed him for almost having two picks, I even think someone bashed him for growing his beard wrong.

Hey Hoops,
Any better opinion of Sims as a receiver? He has shown pretty well the last few weeks. Add in his blocking and he is becoming quite an asset.

It's not the first time Lazor has done that this year. I think after Miller got stopped for no gain on the first run he pretty much decided he would throw to open up the run game.

i was so pissed at the d i guess i didnt pick up on that...doesnt make sense to me...but neither does colledge over smith anymore either...once satele got hurt and pouncey shifted to center i get colledge at lg and smith at right but man smith just flat out plays a better game than colledge does...especially against physical fronts...smith packs a punch on contact...play him dammit all

great write up but disagree about the squib kicks. With our kicker we are just asking to put the jets on the 40. I would of blew a fuse if we squibbed it after we hit the go ahead field goal.

one of the best blocking tight ends in football...period...his production in the pass game is primarily still though coverage based and he's the guy forgotten about when it comes to coverage and defensive design...but tannehill doesnt force things to one guy never has he goes with the ball where the coverage says it should and yesterday that guy was sims...soft hands received the ball well...caught that last one with his hands not his body...solid player for us...learning to id coverages as well...

i kid you not he drives that run game an awful lot and in pass pro does as good work as you will find in a tight end...

Amen brother, amen. Two words: Geno Smith. We acted like we were afraid of him, yeah Geno. What the hell was Coyle thinking?? I get so tired of seeing coaches refuse to adjust when the answer is hitting them in the head with a ball bat. We were lucky to get out of there with a win simply because our DC refused to make Geno beat us until the 2nd half. Sometimes it is that simple.

the only issue i have with his game yesterday really was he bailed the pocket laterally early a couple times i think he should have stood in and gone thru progressions...a little jumpy on a few plays...but hell he got high lowed in the first half i thought they sawed him in half

his decisions vs the coverage though nope not a problem with any of it...you and i both know you cant force things into coverage and he saw as much drop zone as i think anyones ever played this season...and when you are in long downs and distances like we were a ton with penalties and loss yardage etc many qbs would have forced the issue

it's just a good thing we faced an awful qb...

How soon can we expect some deep passes I'm getting tired of this narrative that he can't throw deep

i wouldnt hold my breath on it...only time we seem to look vertical is off of those hard play action looks and it looks to me like we are running all clear out routes in front of it and trying to hit vertical crossers out of those in front of drop deep coverages
