Hoops scoops...fins patriots

Good Call Hoops,

If you don't mind please address a question that I've posted and noone has yet to answer.

How is it that PI isn't being called on these M.Wallace deep balls? Yesterday, was the best example on the deep throw.

The Pats Db was clearly beat, never looked for the ball and ran straight into M.W....nothing! NO call..nothing. Its not the first time either, but yesterday was probably the most blatant.

WHY?

Even more, there wasn't even a moment of decision. As soon as 3rd down was over, we went right back to the huddle. There was no looking around and waiting on a decision. Everyone came back to the huddle and called the play like it was a routine play.

This decision was made before the drive started. Philbin told the offense to go win the game.

I don't know if most have been noticing, but I think Mike Wallace has finally bought into this team and the coaches. The last few weeks he's been workman-like. I don't hear the crying baby anymore. I see a guy buying into the system and the team. It seems like since Gibson went down, the WR unit has come together and molded into a cohesive group. They are operating as one now. And not as a collection of individuals.

Another thing I've noticed, the current OLine still yields almost as many sacks but its the timing of their sacks that has transformed the rhythm of the offense. The sacks are happening on plays that have no real impact on the game. The numbers are still there but the sacks are not defining our offensive performance. They are non-consequential. Which to me means when the protection is needed, the protection is there. Looks to me like McKinnie is starting to round into form just like he did last year. Answering the bell when its ringing the loudest.

We need to be careful how we "improve" this line. We can't start over. We need strategic upgrades that can be inserted without messing with what is working. I'd like to see McKinnie come back and mentor a couple of tackles while anchoring our line and providing continuity for the short term.

Pieces are falling together right now. And I think it's because we've fixed a few core problems that were tearing this team apart.

And one would be foolish not to underestimate the coincidence of a free agent loaded team finally rounding into shape after the halfway point of the season. We've gotten rid of some problems, but we've also finally had time for the new pieces to find their place with their new teammates.

i'd thank this but it's not working right now...as for mckinnie we tore up the final year of his deal for $2.7 mil when we could have retained him...don't ask me why...dumbest move we've made in a while...that to me was a no brainer to retain...i get that we want to get more athletic at tackle for this scheme but we also right now have two pretty good move players in brenner and pouncey to get to the edges...

i'm with you mckinnie needs to come back...depending on some rookie or dropping a brinks truck in some other veteran free agent left tackle is not a smart way to go about it...mckinnie doesn't get walked back into your qb and overpowered...you may go around him but you got to go pretty wide to do it or you got to beat him with lateral quickness inside which he's susceptible to...when he does sometimes get walked back he reanchors well...hell the guy saved our season

and excellent point about the timing of sacks now...couldn't agree more...mostly inconsequential and also the qb can overcome some of them...what he can't overcome is jail breaks from the outside in and collapsing pockets...and those are much less frequent now thanks to mount mckinnie

He's not a corner...he's a safety forced to play the slot yesterday because of all the injuries. He showed some nice ball skills yesterday, I need to see more but he may be Clemons replacement next season.

ok that makes sense cause he played an awful lot facing the ball during the play instead of in the hip of the wr...very much safety like

i'll tell you why...wallace catches or attempts to catch every vertical in his body by that i mean cradle it when it's coming down...no go get it at the highest point...just not what he is...so if the ball is underthrown and he has to wait guys are getting a hand in there between his two arms cause of the level he wants to catch it at...and no i havent seen one yet that they should have called and didn't off that action...dbs are catching up and getting a hand in there...now if wallace came back and went thru the db we would be seeing those calls...

just not what he is...he wants to run under the ball and it drop in to his cradled arms...for a guy that plays it that way he locates the ball very well and has high end awareness...

that kids special though...his speed is just effortless...his stride everything he does effortless and he's tough...had that reverse been ted ginn he would have either fallen down when chandler jones had the outside contain and he couldn't get to the sideline or acted like he took contact...he turned it up inside put his head down and gained 13 yards after setting up jones to the outside with a stutter step

Thomas s barely 5'9. He's good as a nickel player.

I have to always keep repeating this. Range is huge in a Free safety especially in our scheme. Clemons doesn't have good ball skills. But he has really good range and knows his assignments.

right...i just think i would line him up more in the backfield than flexed...that way he's still on the field and they likely keep the same personnel for you to exploit...i just don't think he's a win option vs coverage...i will say this though he's improved leaps and bounds...that was not an nfl player period last year and he could have turtled and pulled a jon martin instead he manned up and worked at his craft and is giving us some return...

he stoned quinton coples on the goalline vs the jets...i mean hit him so hard coples just crumbled...blew some assignments also as a blocker though but still never would have thought i'd see him drop a de in the hole

No. I don't think you're quite following me. If you flex him out then the Patriots have a decision to make. Walk the linebacker out there to cover him, or have a corner/safety cover him. If they walk the linebacker out, you can check to an inside run. If the linebacker stays inside, then you try to match him up against Clay or a running back or even Matthews in man or a pattern match zone/man. That's a win for the offense. But it doesn't happen if Egnew stays off the field or if he's left inside the box.

ouch...barely 5 ft 9...i don't like that in a safety...especially when you have to cover all these huge tight ends down the seam etc...may be just a package player as you state...

Those back to back move the sticks connects yesterday with Hartline were spectacular, as well as the 4th down convert to Clay.
Hopefully the deep ball to Wallace will improve over the off season.

We have our QB y'all!!!! takes a sack, next play brushes his shoulders off stays in the pocket & delivers.

Interesting. He's listed at 5' 11" on the Dolphins website. Looks like he measured 5' 9 7/8" at his pro day.

well that's better...i'm a pretty big stickler about 5 ft 10 safeties at least...hows his vertical???

there was many special throws...but the back shoulder 22 yarder on i think 2nd and 15 to the sideline to wallace was redunkulous...i just spit out my beer on that throw...22 yards back shoulder perfectly placed

i'll tell ya another throw that was special and it was only 8 yards...the ball where tannehill rolled to his left slightly before hitting wallace for an 8 yarder...in full motion that throw could not have been placed any better and it was moving to his weak side...i saw that throw and said the qbs showing off...everything heading to his weak side across his body rope...

It's not bad, 38"...about half of what mine is :).

4.51 40 at his pro day.
2.64 20-yard split.
1.57 10-yard split.

10' 04" broad jump.
3.99 20-yard shuttle (that's pretty darn good)
7.03 3-cone drill

not bad numbers, I'd like to see a lower 3-cone drill however.
