here's my take on today...

the martin pick i understand that he's a high end talent and that a year from now he probably would have been a top 15 pick tackle at least and that he will fit the zbs we want to run but if he's coming here to play right tackle from the jump he lacks strength for this level...he needs to get in a weight room asap...he's got great tools though but has issues against speed and strength...had he stayed in school and gotten stronger like i think he should have he likely would have locked up a top 15 2013 pick...

the vernon pick might have been a little high but he was one of the few remaining prospects with high end rush tools...when i watched this kid i swear i saw a lot of cam wake...doesn't have the same strength as wake at this point has similar hips though and he can bend and run the arc and when he turns the corner he can flatten out pretty good...i like the upside of this pick i think his best football is in front of him...not sure though if he has the same ankle flexion and balance as wake but i see a similar like upside...one more thing early on this is a rush specialist only...cause he cannot hold up against the run at this point...this is a pass rush package player til he develops

michael egnew i know what he's here to be...our flexed out guy in packages...he can't play in line can't block a lick imo was more explosive and showed separation skills when he was a 235 lb guy before his senior season...the guy i saw at the senior bowl at 251 looked bloated and couldn't separate all week against coverage...i'd tell him to drop 5-10 lbs and get some of that burst back personally...cause like i said no matter what guy isn't gonna block a paper bag...flex him out and let him take advantage of mismatches with his speed etc...

Could we be seeing Egnew lined up more as a true Receiver then TE?

think more jermichael finley...just don't think in line...ever...he can't block at all...none of the missou te's can ever block..the concern i have is if egnews on the field odds are damn good its a pass coming...cause he'll be flexed out...i guess you could spread them out and run some draws out of shotgun etc with him on the field but don't EVER ask this guy to block in pass pro against anyone...EVER

former basketball player, third round, 4.55 speed, i think they are trying to make up for not taking jimmy graham...

So, he's not coachable? He can't learn to pass and run block? If he can't play in line, we will sort of be predictabhle.

At the U Vernon always seemed to get the negative plays meeting the RB in the backfield or harrassing the QB. With some coaching he maybe a good 4 / 3 end.

Didn't Green Bay carry 5 tight ends last year ? Philbin may go heavy there and light at WR.

I'd like to forget that guys like Egnew exist. It's symbolic of the decline in the league, and style of play in conferences like the Big 12. But every time I try to deny a player like that is effective, the season shows up again and it's open spaces in the secondary with safeties backing off. So I understand the pick, as sickening as it is to someone who enjoyed the Csonka era and wish the league never evolved away.

Based on that pick I doubt we'll average 25 or even 24 rushes per game. It just screams finesse.

I'd have preferred T.Y. Hilton in that spot. He's special, not merely tall and at a newly enamored position.

The second round pick was going to be an offensive lineman so Martin was one of the few logical choices, given the style Philbin prefers. I actually wonder if Schwartz wasn't stolen away. One guy I know in Las Vegas raved about him all year. I had no idea who he was talking about until the USC game, with Schwartz handling Perry time after time.

Vernon seemed more like a 4th rounder to me. As I mentioned in the Draft Forum a couple of days ago, those tweener DE/OLB types are sucker picks, far more than is conceded. Even if they look fantastically explosive in college it can turn into Jerry Hughes or Quentin Groves.

But I don't like to make late adjustments as opposed to relying on early evaluation. Two years ago I thought Vernon projected as an excellent pro, so I'll hope that's correct.

He could easily become a fan favorite, given the nastiness to his game.

I too liked Schwartz. We could have used the Schwartz. (Yogart, Spaceballs)

What I saw of Egnew I liked. Massive target that does a nice job finding soft spots in coverage. His hands stood out for me at the combine. He looked very smooth and caught everything thrown his way.

I am disappointed they didn't take Randle or Jeffries in the second. Martin is a nice pickup but I thought Jerry really grew up the second half of the season last year and would be penciled in at RT.

I think Jerry will start at RG at this point. But I do agree with alot of what youre saying

When was the last time the "U" was relevant? 1985? Don't act like you're churning out winners anymore.

Well i rewatch stanford vs usc dvr and I'm unimpressed. This young man needs alot of work which I hope Philbin can work his magic like he did matt birk many moons ago. Martin plays unbalanced with his nose past his toes. He is either whiffing intentionally or wtf since he is on the ground on 3/4 of the stanford offensive plays. Hell even on run plays he is on the ground at some point. He also lack pop and never locks his arms. Hand placement also needs works. Positive: he is good at slide step in mirroring the DE. In my opininon, his play is a softer version of Fozell Adams.

Forgot to add that he is very intuitive of penalties. When he was about to hold or block in the back, he recognized and disengaged. This is a plus. At least he's not Alex Barron or Fozell Adams of the world in holding penalties.

I think his run blocking is good but needs work on his pass blocking. I think he will be a good one and he has lots of experience. Its nice to have two starting left Tackles on the line.

I think the FO is focusing in on guys with high ceilings but need some development. This has me hopeful that Philbin and Co. will do everything to develop not only these picks, but also Gates, Wilson, Les, Wallace, Moore, Pruitt, Carroll who came out highly talented but RAW.

We rarely seem to be able to develop players hence the mid round failures
