hoops take on todays haul...

I think every pick has bust written all over it. I can see talent in Tannehill and toughness and effort in Vernon but a TE who can't block anyone? and a LT that is soft as Marshmallows?

Martin is not really soft, he was injured in the usc game and gutted it out. His play was adversely affect afterwards but his toughness can't be questioned. He needs alot of work on technique though.

Martin will be alright he will beef up in workouts and be competing. Ill be honest i dont think he couldn't be any worse at RT compared to what we had last year. What im really looking forward to is a coaching staff that can actually develop talent, which is something we have been lacking for a long time.

what martin needs is an initial punch...he tries to rely on his feet too much and frankly he doesn't have great feet...he allows guys to get into his body and come to them allows them to build up steam and leverage by always taking the contact in pass pro rarely delivering it...his upper body strength or lack of really shows on tape there's too much him getting walked into the backfield after contact...too much finesse in his pass pro game...he'll start a play with good knee bend and good technique but as the play develops he has a tendency to get more and more vertical before contact...i would say that if this kids here to be a starting right tackle from the jump we better give him help with fasano or chipping guys out of the backfield etc...as a run blocker he moves pretty well this isn't a great athlete but a solid one and he can pull and make contact he sustains things pretty well in line when asked to go straight ahead...i will say though that despite what i would call a finesse game he'll play to the whistle and sometimes through it and he hustles to get in on the action...

im disapointted we didnt draft a starting WR. dont see to many WRs now that could help us. I was noticing Egnew kinda reminded me of a slightly less skilled version of Aaron Hernandez. Doesnt block much but does a lot in the passing game and can be moved around and make things happen.

i tell ya what...the more i watch olivier vernon the more i think he's a little more stout against the run then i thought...he might be able to give us a little more than just situational pass rush early on...might

and the more i watch michael egnew the more i become convinced the kid can't separate...not gonna lie not a big fan of this pick...not in round 3...but i know slimm and ck like him and in this range...but not me didn't separate at the senior bowl week and does not separate on tape

Not sure if he can saparate but he still seems to catch everything close to him....I've seen him on tape with guys around him and he still comes down with the football.....I know is a different game in the NFL but I see him as a missmatch for most defenders.

Ozzy rules!!

no doubt...he catches the ball wearing guys like drapes...but thats not what i want...or better yet the athletes he faces at the next level are gonna be even better and faster...so those contestec catches in college have a tendency to become locked down in coverage in the pros...

i see no suddenness to his game out of his cuts etc...i see a guy who might be imo a bit of a product of that missou system...

When was the last time the "U" was relevant? 1985? Don't act like you're churning out winners anymore.

Haha. Take a look around the NFL it's full of Canes. I'm pretty sure they won a few championships since 85 also.

I bet he goes on a weight reduction regimine to get him back to 235. The film I saw showed him getting just enough seperation in the short to medium routes (has great arm reach) and more when he was asked to run down the seam.

He was always good against the run, and on the field he has a great motor. What he needs is coaching, and strength. Canes have not gotten it done in the weight room the last several years, and that changes when they get in the league. It's been a real culture issue in Coral Gable, and IMHO one reason UM has struggled for years. Vernon has a huge upside if he puts the work in.

Vernon was never developed by the prior staff. The only thing I can't pin point is whether he has the work ethic needed to step up to the next level. There was so much BS flying around as to whether he was part of a cancer with the fabled 2008 class. I will say the defense played better when he was in there. Both against the run and rushing the passer.

I don't care. He was taken in the third round. If he takes coaching he could be very good for us.
