The first three years I have been a dolphin fan, we were in the super bowl 2 of those years. Losing both. .Since those SB losses, my fins haven't been to the big dance since..

And since then, I have seen this team make many transitions. From a passing team to a running team, from good coaching to bad coaching to good coaching again, from good defenses to god awful defenses to very good defenses etc ..

I have witnessed some abysmal 1st round busts like John Avery, John Bosa, Eric Kumerow, Sammy Smith, Jamar Fletcher and the like..

I have seen this team blow some serious big leads in the 4th quarter, and seen them come back being down big in the 4th .

I have seen Miami without a 1000 yard rusher for just about 2 decades. A simple feat in the grand scheme of things (look how many average backs get 1000 yards nowadays) . In the mid 80's, I have seen Miami's defense give up a whopping 5 yards a carry one season.

I could go on and on but you long time dolfans know the script.. It seems we can never get it together for one season.. I saw some horrid playcalling Thursday night , and it got me to thinking if we had last year's offensive co-ordinator we win that game to give our team alot of needed confidence the rest of the season..

We now have Hudson Houck as our offensive line coach.. I remember Jimmy Johnson wanting Houck badly when JJ was here but Houck opted to stay where he was.. Who knows, with Houck's tutelege back then with some talent on that Miami line, we may have made it to the super bowl with the defense Jimmy built .. Now we have Houck when we have crap up front, I doubt he can work effectively with such talentless guys up there.

It's just the way things go in dolphinland.. We just can't seem to put the pieces together for a complete ballclub.. And , it's definitely not easy building an NFL club.. Just look at the New Orleans Saints and tell me how many playoff games they have won in their long history.

I do trust in Saban.. However, I question this Mularkey move he made.. I was peeved at the playcalling Thursday night.. Yes I know it was one game, and the first game in the season with a new QB etc .. But I just can't get away from thinking if Linehan were in charge of the offense, we would have been much better.

Not only do you have to draft well, convince free agents to come here, get good coaching, have an owner willing to spend to the cap etc. But you also have to have the right chemistry with your offensive and defensive co-ordinators as well as a good personnel director and General Manager .. And the good players you finally attain have to develop chemistry as well. Then of course you have the health factor . ie- The unexpected injuries to some of your core players throwing the whole thing outta whack .

If any one of those factors are off, you can't go all the way .

I really don't have a point to starting this thread, it's just something I am thinking about this morning .. Sometimes it seems like such a painstaking process building a team that can go all the way.. I feel for some of these coaches in the league.. There is so much competition out there in the NFL..

I realize some of what I said here is a no brainer and most of it is obvious.. But when you really think about all the components that have to be set in place to be a true winner in the ultimate team sport , it's pretty daunting thinking about it in depth.. No wonder Nick Saban goes to sleep at 2am and wakes up at 6 every day .

Need I remind you of a couple of games last year where the playcalling by Linehan was also questionable early in the season.

I had a problem with the playcalling as well but I can't fault that completely. Seems like alot of poor execution and Oline problems contributed.

remember Sabans words on last years "choice" of three passes in a row at the one..."if we had executed, this discussion would not be happening."

Yeah, but that doesn't prove anything, if fact you prove my point further.. .. Because Ronnie Brown had a much better chance of executing by gaining some yards catching out of the backfield with some room to run, then getting stuffed time and time again trying to run the ball out of the backfield..

By not utilizing what really worked more often (the quick passing game) we lost alot of possessions early in the game where we could have went for longer drives and made their defense more tired.. And as a further result, made our defense well rested so they wouldn't wither away tired in the 4th quarter .
