The Texans targeted Givens, the Humble native who earned two Super Bowl rings in his four seasons with New England, as the offensive player they wanted the most.

Givens, 25, was offered $18.5 million over five years, but he is going to Nashville, Tenn., today to meet with the Titans.

If Tennessee comes close to meeting his asking price of almost $25 million over five years, the Titans will have the best chance of signing him.

Because the Texans have signed defensive end Anthony Weaver (five years, $26.5 million, $12 million signing bonus), quarterback Sage Rosenfels (four years, $6.4 million, $2 million signing bonus), fullback Jameel Cook (five years, $5 million) and Walter (an offer sheet for four years, $6.4 million), they are unable to offer close to $25 million for Givens.

dont see why we cant match that offer, even if only slightly... if the money is better than what the Texans offer and he can come to play for a team on the rise like us, cant see how he could turn it down... I like Marty Booker a lot, but given his age and contract, I would rather have Givens over Booker (in a perfect world, we would keep both and everyone can be happy:wink: )

i think we are fine with booker and chambers. No question givens is a big physical receiver but I don't see us breaking the bank for him.

Goodbye Givens

Correct me if I'm incorrect, but was I told it's untrue that Givens has never had a 1,000 yard season? Was I not misinformed?

He hasn't.

18.5 over 5 years is not that big of a contract! Thats 3.7 mil a year and if I had to guess I would say that this year would be less and back load the contract a little bit. Thats not bad and I still think we have a good shot at signing him

Givens is far from great and certainly not worth going over what was offered by Houston....

We should just draft a burner early in the draft.. like sinorice moss.. and let him develop...

Wait and a second everyone...Booker is 29 and Givens is 25. Booker is making $3M per/year and this offer is about $3.6M per/year.

Who would you rather have??

I think the choice is easy...cut Booker and SIGN Givens.

In fairness, no one in New England has had a 1,000 yards receiving in the past 4 seasons. The ball gets spread around a lot.

Edit: He's also never played 16 games in a season.

I agree! Do it Nick.

Givens seems a little rich for us....we are nicely set with Chambers and I think we can get a good receiver in the draft for much less.

WHAT!?!? your crazy Booker is a better athlete and would be less of a cap hit.

Thank you, I totally agree. Booker is very good and was reliable for us, I dont know why people are calling for his release when he makes $3 mil. Remember Givens has had Tom Brady throwing to him and Booker has never really had a solid qb. If we dont break the bank for brees we can sign givens and keep booker.
