From everything I've heard he's as good as Pomalu. In fact, the reason, Troy can freelance so much is because Hope has everything locked down. He's young, and could be a safety for years. Anyone?
Expert's Take Hope has adequate size for the safety position and he has very good foot quickness and very good running ability. He shows that he can flip his hips and turn and run with very little wasted motion and he has excellent range. He can play over the top in a cover two scheme and he is a sideline to sideline player. He is comfortable coming into the box in run support and he is a very aggressive hitter who has the ability to uncoil and hit through a ball carrier. He is very smooth in his change of direction and he shows good man to man cover skills. He can run with most slot receivers down the field and he has very good ball skills. He uses his hands well in block protection and he takes good angles to the ball in pursuit. He plays with a good level of intensity and he goes aggressively to the ball. He has a good feel for coverage although at times he looks somewhat mechanical in his zone drops. He needs to do a better job of reading the quarterbacks eyes and throwing motion. He appears to be late breaking on the ball at times and sometimes he appears to be too cautious. He doesn't make many mental mistakes but he doesn't gamble much either and he will not make many big plays as a result. He is a consistent outstanding performer on special teams and is a steady reliable performer at the safety position.
