Troy Smith will be an restricted free agent next year and I don't think that the Ravens will give him a high tender..
He was used by Baltimore in some trickery plays last season and showed flashes in '07.. Remember the last minute-drive against us that sent the game to overtime and nearly cost us our only win ? I know we were not any good that season but it was impressive how he stepped right in for Boller and drove them downfield.. Smith showed also flashes in the other games he started imo..
And he only lost his starting job before the season because of a rare form of tonsilitis..

Imo he would be a great Wildcat QB because he (obviously) plays the position, can throw the football, can run it and I think it is unlikely that we draft Pat White because he will go too high for us (2nd round).. Also it'd be a reunion between Ginn and Smith who were together at Ohio State..

Thoughts ?

I think he'll end up with the Jets one way or another.

jets arent joking anymore either.. We better get ready for some tuff football. our division will either make ya or breakya. there coach ryan wont be a softy Man i wish dan the man was here now. We would i think won that super bowl last yr. but This yr in miami. if they cant get to a super bowl in there own back yard. we got some serious issues. and forgive my opinion but for them not to consider ray lewis opposite porter.. by far the dumbest move yet. That guy wants another ring and he may just get it. how could we not appreciate what he has done for that team unless they got a trick up there sleeve like calling derrick brooks and seeing if he wants to finish his career as a dolphin or wait NE will.. We will see how that pans out up there. Bellichik is the real deal just hope we can keep up with them.

how many QB's do you need there fella? Is this john gruden? why not bring in garcia, harrington, ferotte, brad johnson, leftwich, anyone else wanna be a fin? hey fiedler, are you still in playing shape?

Ray Lucas is available, I bet he would be good for the wildcat:chuckle:

Im willing to bet that the wildcat becomes a play that is used 5 or 6 times year by then. its a gimmick play that will be figured out by d coordinators by next year (hell it was figured out by the good ones this year), and it will only work in spot plays that catch the d off gaurd.

No, but we only have three QBs.. and with Beck maybe gone by next season I thought it would be interesting to take a look at Troy Smith..

Can we get through this season before we start looking at the restricted free agents that may be available next season. Let's at least get through the draft ok. Is this offseason getting long or what?

honestly, the way i've been thinking is that the wildcat has a RB lined up at QB. not a QB lined up where he would be. that kinda defeats the purpose of the wildcat. coming out in a standard formation and letting the QB keep it involves no trickery at all. i liked the way we used the wildcat this year, with chad at flanker then running a reverse with him throwing a deep bomb for a TD. i honestly never saw that coming. but neither did anybody else in the NFL so its all good.

I say pass on troy. yeah, he's a good running QB, but i think the wildcat is run better in the hands of ronnie. he's a fast, strong player while troy is a QB, who are not really meant to have a specefic formation just for him to run.
