Meh, don't know why that got posted as a link rather than an image.
I don't believe people around here understand the concept of cap space...

As much as I like Finley, I would rather Fleener.

One had an all pro QB throwing to him who was deemed the best QB in the league and the other had two QB’s throwing to him that were deemed backups by the pundits. Who are they?
I think we could use help in other places in the offense and go after a speedy TE Hybrid type player in the later rounds of the draft. Don't forget that Clay showed some flashes of good receiving ability late last season as well.
Finley would be a low priority in my opinion.
the NFL is not really like Madden 20**Of course this is assuming Peyton is healthy. We could clear whatever cap space needed to make that happen. But if we were to get both Jermichael Finley and Peyton Manning, and use our 1st round pick on an elite Offensive Lineman, we would have one of the most high powered offenses in the league. Marshall and Finley getting the ball from Peyton? Sounds like a contender to me.
What do you guys think? Is it an impossible thought?
I like the thought and enthusiasm, but . . . . . Finley you can count as "off the table". GB will keep him by either signing an extension or just tagging him. Probably better chance at the second option because the tag with TE's just went down for next year and probably will be cheaper for them than signing a multi-year deal.
Now with Manning, that's a catch-22 no matter how you look at it. Assuming he's not completely done, that means that he's a) slowly making his way back and we'd have to go after him not knowing when/if he'd be available to play for us; or b) he's healthy and if Indy releases him, he'll have at least 10 teams going after him with some big offers. We probably can't afford a fully cleared Manning with our cap numbers. So that means we either move on from him or take a HUGE gamble and try to sign him if he's still uncertain when/if he will return. And I'm not sure he will even do that until he knows.
Not sure what's catch-22 about Manning. He will ultimately decide on where to go and money won't be the driving factor. We have enough cap space to sign anyone in the league. We can structure a deal that is performance based. He'll get bonuses/accelerators when he's able to play. This will probably be how most teams approach Manning.
So back to your original post . . . . . study how N.E. picked their TE's and get someone who will be a difference-maker instead of someone who blocks and occasionally goes out for passes.
At QB . . . . well, I'm sure we are already coming up with 5 different plans depending on who they want to go after and if they fall throug.
It's tough to just say study how N.E. does it. They were a 1 seed and their cap hit right now is 85M or 40M below cap. Everyone in the league should study how NE does it. They're a perennial powerhouse with no names on their roster other than Brady. The secret really isn't a secret at all. They make a killing in the draft. They consistently trade down and find value every year with their multiple selections. They also bring up players from practice squads. Gronk, Hernandez, Woodhead, Edleman, BJGE, and Welker get paid a combined 10M or about how much Brandon Marshall costs us. I think I listed everyone worth mentioning on the NE skills player depth chart.

I don't really understand your point. Finley is a demonstratively much better tight end and it's reflected in his numbers. Obviously he has a much better QB than Fasano does, but Fasano has about 1/4 the athelticism and playmaking ability of Finley. He would be a huge upgrade for us, we've badly needed a seam threat for a long time.
BTW, Finley is not someone who "blocks and occasionally goes out for passes".
Explain to me how Finley's numbers are demonstratively much better?
The numbers are very similar and in fact if you further take into account that Finley was targeted 93 times compared to Fasano's 54 you could make the case that Fasano did more with far less. Give some love to a guy who deserves it on the team, 3/4's of this board want to can a player who comes to work every day and constantly ranks near the top of all TE"s even though Miami didn't utilize the TE position like the top offenses in the league.
