How accurate is Mel Kiper Jr in his Draft predictions?

I'm not sure if it was Mel Kiper, but nfldraftcountdown.com had us picking Jason Allen in their Final Mock, in the first round, and we did. I'm thinking that was Scott Wright who made the mock though, I'm not sure.

Actually, Scott Wright did not have us taking Jason Allen. You may be confused because after the draft, Scott posts the actual picks and these show up under 'Mock Draft' with his analysis of the pick. I believe he actually thought we reached with the pick and he didn't love it. Earlier in the year, though, you are correct, he did have Jason Allen to the Fins. Nonetheless, his work is excellent and he is usually very accurate.

Oh, yeah you're right. My bad. I remember in the first mocks they put up, they had us picking Ko Simpson, and he fell to the 4th round. That would have been a mega reach.

I saw Jay Cutler, Ko Simpson, Donte Whitner and Jason Allen in the different mocks that nfldraftcountdown.com put up as they updated.

This was before Cutler wowed scouts at the Senior Bowl. I have to wonder whether Whitner was ranked ahead of Allen on our board.

Actually Scott Wright has us taking Jimmy Williams in his last mock for the 2006 Draft.:dolphins:

Mel Kipers usually pretty awful. I dont know how he got the 'draft analysis' job but he seems to miss more then he hits. I remember in the draft of Fitzgerald, roy williams, reggie williams, and mark clayton, he said rashan woods was probably the best receiver out of them all.

Mike Mayock is probably the best right now. Kiper is good, but he's not as good as he was 10 or so years ago (when the draft wasn't really followed as much).

Scott Wright is good, but he's a better scout than he is at making mocks.

DJ Boye is also pretty good.

Kiper is better at analyzing how a player will fit into his new team after the pick is made(he's usually dead on in that aspect).

Agreeing with Chambers, Kiper is dead on with perfect fits. He will tell you from his analysis throughout the year which pick will do which team best. And he has continued to do that year in and year out. Last year he said Vince Young would be better in Tennessee and Leinart better in Arizona, no matter the Norm Chow factor. I think we can all agree.

If you are a BPA person, than Kiper's analysis is not for ya!

Simpson played lights out this year with 76 tackles and 1 sack
Jason Allen had 20 tackles and 0 sacks

WHO WAS THE MEGA REACH THERE

4 TIMES THE PRODUCTION WITH A 4TH ROUND PICK
VERSUS OUR #1

Kiper loved Mike Williams as his #1 player in the draft a few years back. That was stupid even before the draft most people thought.

All Kiper does is the NFL Draft. No college analysis, no pro analysis, just the scouting for the draft. I tend to give him the benefit of the doubt on his projections.
