Take a look at this chart and tell me what you think.

I'd be interested to see how that looks for other teams because that picture looks quite average to me.

^^^ It isn't so much about how many players we have kept that we have drafted, its how much most of them suck. We seem to outsmart ourself every year. The ones we did hit on, we have let walk.

4 draft picks that aren't on their rookie contract...I don't think that's average.

Aside from the questionable talent of the players drafted, Miami also has a bad habit of using high picks on players with injuries and/or medical issues. And, both Ireland and Tannenbaum like to "wheel and deal" during the draft by trading up and down numerous times. There are times when this strategy would make sense, but that's usually not the case with the Dolphins. Ireland would trade up for a player like Daniel Thomas, and then trade back down stockpiling late round picks in search of "acorns". Tannenbaum just traded up twice for Caroo and Grant, and ended up with no 4th or 5th round picks at all! The team not only needed to fill a lot of starting positions, but they also needed more depth. The draft plan should have been to get as many players as possible, not to go two entire rounds with no picks... many teams can find starters in the 4th and 5th rounds.

I predict another terrible season because Ross made another huge mistake. Ross screwed up by keeping Ireland when he fired Sparano. Ross screwed up again by hiring Philbin. He made that worse by hiring Tannenbaum. And the latest bone-headed mistake was keeping Tannenbaum (and putting him in charge of all things football) when Philbin was fired. Ross just can't grasp the concept of "cleaning house" and continues to take half-measures. Because of this, as soon as there is an injury on the o-line (Albert, most likely) Dallas Thomas will once again be a starter. Gase will never get a fair chance to prove if he's Head Coach material or not because Tannenbam is running the show.

Without knowing the success/failure rate of 31 other teams, drawing a conclusion from the list is a useless exercise. And although the drafts post-Ireland haven't been exceptional, I think they're better than DURING Ireland. Finally, if you think Ireland's drafts were bad, list his FAs.
