If Pennington goes down, that means the only active QB we can go to is Pat White? Does this mean we cannot go straight to Henne? Anyone know the specifics as it seems a huge risk to deactivate Henne. Pat White does not look ready to be playing full time. It bothers me how small he looks.

Once Henne is in, Pennington cannot be put back in during that game. So it's not an issue.

yes we can go stright to henne we dont have to put white in as the starter the only reason we have white as the 2nd QB is that if he was 3rd string he couldnt come in and then penny go back in the 2nd string can be put in and taken out and penny can go back in but you cant put a 3rd string QB in and then put penny back in thats why we have white as our 2nd string QB not because he is better than henne but we are useing him in some of the wildcat plays but imo white is nowhere as good as henne is

Thank you Captain Run-on. That was quite entertaining.

I heard Henning is collecting pictures of the defense with Pat White in the game, apparently to show his descendants.

I believe if Henne comes in before the 4th quarter, neither Pennington or White can go in. So I suppose if Henne gets hurt we run the wildcat the rest of the way - that actually might be pretty entertaining.

No after the fourth quarter you can use any qb you want. Its just the first 3 quarters that are affected.

Are you sure about that? Everything I've read about the emergency QB rule seems to imply that if the emergency QB comes in before the 4th quarter, the other 2 QB's are prohibited from going back in, period.

I don't think that's right. If Henne is on the inactive list he would only be allowed to play if the second string QB could not.

edit strike that I stand corrected. Of course the way I interpreted makes sense, the rule itself doesn't. Apparently you can designate an emergency 3rd quarterback from your inactive roster, but you can use that 'emergency' quarterback at any time. However once you do the 1st and 2nd string QBs may not return for that game, unless the 3rd QB is inserted after the 3rd quarter.

After the fourth quarter = next week....

People keep using the wrong words to refer to how Henne and White are slotted. It has nothing to do with 2nd string/3rd string. It has everything to do with White is the second ACTIVE quarterback during that game and Henne is deemed the Emergency QB (Not 3rd string). They can decide to make all three active in which case they could play any QB at any time, i.e. Henne 2nd string/White 3rd string.

The answer is there is no risk because the team always dresses all three QBs and if Pennington goes down White or Henne could be selected to replace him. If Henne is slotted as the emergency QB then we won't be wasting plays having White handing off to Ricky and getting stuffed at the line because he won't be able to enter the game.
