holes. as simple as that.
burnett brought in because crowder cant play the pass and cant make plays, and burnett cant play the run, looks like a safety and hasnt played well in pass defense either.
bell is an in the box defender at this point and nothing more. in addition hes always been pretty terrible at defending tight ends, with the exception of coming over the top and playing the ball on occasion. hes a liability at this point in pass coverage. which exacerbates our problem with
rashad jones does this guy even have a clue what his assignments are? and his he aware that part of his job as a safety is to actually tackle the guy with the ball?
nolan carroll isnt an NFL corner. ted ginn would be a better cornerback and THATS A FACT (he was recruited out of high school as the best corner in the country BTW)
no pass rush besides wake. speaks for itself
these are glaring holes. u can overcome a couple holes on defense. but when u have 4 or 5 major holes in your lineup, you go from #5 to #30 its that simple. in addition we have zero playmakers STILL besides wake.
it all adds up to a poor defensive team. this team needs 2 playmakers added to this defense at least. holes need to be filled at two safety positions and a nickel corner has to be added. in addition we need another pass rusher.
the simple answer is we dont have enough talent on defense and thats why the defense is poor. we are 4 players short to be very good. and at least 2 very good players short of being a very good defense most of the time
