How can we realistically upgrade our QB postition? I just dont really see a realistic option out there for us. The big 3 QBs in this draft will all probably go before us, and we would have to give up the farm to move up high enough to get one.
And, some of the other QBs, like Rivers/Brees, dont seem like they are going to be available. Culpepper might be an option, but as much as I love Pep, they are going to demand way too much for him especially coming off that knee injury...
So what do we do?
Well it depends on when you want to go to the BIG GAME!
Drafting a QB is a GREAT idea, but don't expect it to have an immediate impact... Now there are a few exceptions to that rule, but in the last 30 years of football, there are only a half dozen or so that stepped from college into the NFL as a starter in their first year. I don't think I need to identify those players either... We can draft and work with what we have or draft and get a vet as well... I am not real high on GUS, but keeping him around for another year or two, while grooming a rookie, would make us playoff contenders until the rookie is ready to go...
I honestly think that SABAN will find us a QB in the FA... I know that many out here don't like picking up other teams' backups, but there have been GREAT finds in the backup roles... BRADY, 6th rd, backup for 2 years... IF DREW didn't get hurt, he may have sat the bench longer... HASSELBECK, 2nd(??) rd, Backup for 1+ years... GREEN, don't remember the round, backup for a couple of years...
And there are others that have made VERY GOOD starters in this league...
So, the question is... Do you want to go to the SB next year, OR wait a couple of years?
VOLEK, GERRARD, LEMON (With a name like that, how can he NOT be GOOD... LEMON AIDE is 1 of the top 5 drinks!!!:D ), CARR maybe or even McCOWN...
Bottom line is, I BELIEVE that no matter WHO is under center, WE WILL BE A FORCE to deal with next year!!!:D
