While the team unimpressive at times and started out 3-7, the 2005 season was the last winning season we had. With 6 straight wins to close out the season, we finished 9-7. I would be thrilled if we could do that again.

The majority of people are thinking (hoping?) that we can finish at .500 this year. Based on what we had in the season, I don't think .500 is really a stretch.

We have R&R back, although Ricky is getting old. We should have an improved oline though. Also, the QB situation is a huge question, but can it be much worse than Gus Frerotte? With Ginn here, I don't think we'll have to worry about the absence of Chambers too much. Also, I think we made a big upgrade with Wilford.

Obviously, defense is a huge question mark as well. In 05 we had a high ranked defense. ZT in 05 was better than anybody that can replace him, no question. Hopefully Porter can show an improvement over last year and JT will play at a high level.

So what does everybody think? Do you think we will at least be able to return to the mediocrity of the 2005 fins?

well, i think anything is possible in the NFL, realisticly i think they'll be fighting to reach the .500 mark but with a few brakes here and there you never know... matbe we'll be like the Saints, from last to first and a playoff win... but thats just me being opptimistic... hopefully they'll do really well but most likely another year or two before they start being really competitive again...
but you never know... thats why the play the games....

I think it is impossible to compare. these two teams are 100% different from each other. we are going to be runnin a diff. defensive scheme, and the playbook is going to be completely different. So as far as talent, the defense had more in 05, the offense i think is a toss up right now depending on questionmarks we have.. But the question is how well will the players we have fit in the offense and defense that we will be running.

Without veteran leadership at the qb position I don't see it. This is a developemental year whoever ends up starting!

I think we will be much better on Offense, but there will be a ? on how good we will be on defense.

This team is going to struggle in the beginning, with the loss of Zach, but I think this team is going to have a much better D-line then they did in 05 and in by the end of the season will have a better defense then in 05.

On offense this is going to be a better running team then in 05, with a good chance of it being a more efficient passing team (Depending on how well our QBs do).

Miami is going to be better as a team then in 05. People need to understand, we had bad coaching in 07 with the added bonus of a lot of major injuries....if what happened to us, happens to the Pats or Giants, they miss the playoffs, or at least lose in their 1st game.

I wouldnt say "much worse". If we can get out of our QB, the kind of production we got from Frerotte in 05 ill be happy. He passed for 4 yards shy of 3000 with 18 TD's and 13 INT's. Frerotte has been the best QB we have had here since id say 04.

Considering we were a few breaks away from six wins last season it's reasonable to think this team should have dramatic improvement. I don't think this team will be able to avoid some of the same late game losses as last seasons team did, but I think they will capture some of them.

I strongly dissagree with this line of thinking.

I know it's a possibilty but you never really know.

Think back a few years ago that Monday Nighter Matt Lienart and Arizona played the bears.

I know the Bears came back from 20 points down and won but Matt Lienart wasn't the reason for the loss. He showed pose and led his team down the field he looked like a seasoned vet as a rookie!

Beck, Henne or McCown could end up surprising us. It will be easier for them to do that if we can establish a running game.

I don't agree because you don't want it to be true. Matt Lienart also got benched.

This season is a shot in the bucket... I would personally be surprised if we get to .500 after last season. Also it would help the rebuilding process if we could get another top 5 pick in next years draft.

One word 1992 Cowboys... actually its a couple of words...

I definitely think we are younger and more athletic than the 05 team. Dolpn13 is right...the key will be Quarterback Play. And we also have a much younger line than we had in 05' so i cuold definitely see us going on a bit of a run towards the end of the season.

It's a decent comparison. That '05 team improved late in the season b/c the OL came together and the secondary finally understood their assignments in Saban's complicated scheme. This year's team will largely rely on OL gelling (and RB's full recovery) and the defense coming together. Historically, BP's defense is fairly simple but we do have many new players. The other unknown this season is the QB position. I expect struggles early on but I think that both Beck and McCown are easily capable of a Frerotte like performance over the second half of the season.

Another difference in 05' than now I think are our WR's, they may have been better in 05 for the only reason that we do not know what we have in 08' really. Given we dont know how Wilford will perform in 08' in relation to Booker in 05', but remember that was chambers pro bowl year. Hopefully Ginn can perform like that in 08.

Although I do think the 08' line will be much better than the 05' line. Defense is still up in the air too.

I agree about the line, I think there will be issues intially. But as the season wears on the line will gel and untimately be the best line weve had since the 02 line. Ginn will probably not be a Probowler based on the names in the AFC he would have to jump over......I do see him going over 850 yards.

Guys, we're coming off of 1-15 ... why would you get your hopes set that high right now?
