Except we can't kick them into a pulp before we hike the ball.

Umm...

You can do worse than what you did last year. Just ask the 9ers.

I don't think Saban thinks they have nothing to lose. Nonetheless, the Fins offensive coordinator likes to go down field with the ball. Plus the defense is a complex attacking style of defense. "Nothing to lose"? Only if Wannestedt was still the coach.

Good post. Interesting perspective. I agree...we looked hungry last game. "Eye of the Tiger".

we already have 50% of what the niners had last year. But hey...you're right, miami could somehow lose the next 15 games...

..or not.

Ain't gonna happen....at least not while Saban is still coaching us. He'll be around for a while. NO WAY we do worse than we did last year. I guarantee we won't be worse than last year.

Winning alone gives you something to lose. We win this game and go 2-0, we've got something to lose. I guarantee if we win this game there will be a lot of pundits already penciling us in for the playoffs. The expectations about Saban are THAT good, that as soon as the team shows signs of life, that will be the time people start picking us.

Look how far up the power rankings we've shot up just beating the Broncos in one game that was obviously seriously affected in our favor by the heat and humidity. We were like, 28, 29, 30, etc in most polls, now we're like concensus 22 or 23, and some even have us square in the playoff hunt already after one victory.

That's what we have to lose. Nobody on that D is playing like this is a rebuilding year with nothing to lose. This is a retooling year, a year that, from the defensive players' perspective, gives us the coaching to go with all the talent in order to bring us to the promised land.

not that that i think this will happen, but another blowout win may not be a good thing for team psyche

btw, although he would never say it, my impression from saban is that he thinks he has a pretty good team

The "nothing to lose," BS, does not apply early in the season. I think there is an unspoken rule that coaches, coach every game like it matters. I know many coaches who have things clinched sit out players, but I don't know how beneficial that is, especially in certain situations, but to say a team has nothing to lose this early in the season is just a wrong, IMO.

i think what he means is we will play aggresive the whole game even if we have the lead, no prevent defence, no trying to just run out the clock.

I don't think we have anything to lose, I was thinking 0-4 when RW comes back but now?

You can't play not to lose. You have to be aggressive and leave nothing on the field! Thats the attitude we need to keep.
