How did Phillip Livas do?

I just don't think there is room for him as just a PR/KR guy. I think WR is full right now and because of his size I don't think he can compete there.

So you keep him over Moore or Wallace? Which one?

I'd keep him over Moore.

Phillip Livas has changed the way teams are kicking to us. Watch the film again. Teams are punting short and out of bounds and kicking long on kick offs. Please understand that he is not getting returns because the teams we play are giving up yards to not give him a chance. And if a NFL team kicks off out of the endzone giving up the ball on the 20 yard line that means they think your returner is good. And like CK said, he has made no mistakes and IMO, great awareness of his place on the field and he has great ball awareness.

He is already a polished returner. He has been doing 100% returns until last night when he was given some reps at WR.

And he can be a dangerous WR for us and he also ran the ball in college. He is smart, very fast, very quick and tough. We need him to make this team and do returns for us.

I think he is on the team.

You're asking the wrong questions, IMO. You shouldn't be asking whether there's room for a guy on the WRs unit. You should be asking whether there's room for a guy on the full roster. The bottom line is you have to be very talented to be worthy of being on an NFL roster. How many guys do we have that are truly worthy of rostering? I don't personally think we have 53 guys worth rostering. I think we have more like 50, if that. What I would hate to see happen is for us to lose one of the guys that ARE worth rostering, in favor of some guy who really isn't worth rostering, simply because you're a slave to this notion that there should always be 5 wide receivers on the roster, no more or less.

Thank you. Agree 100%. The difference between Phil Livas and that one guy that was here in camp a year or two ago, I forget his last name it was Chris something or other, think he was from Nevada or UNLV or one of those places, but anyway the difference is that while both had big returns for touchdowns that got everyone's attention, that Chris guy went on to make bad decisions and MUFF a bunch of punts for the rest of the preseason. He showed that while he was fast and could do something with the ball in his hands, he wasn't a natural and he wasn't trustworthy.

Phil Livas is a natural, and he's trustworthy, and he's got some upside to be able to work the slot on offense. He should be kept. The Dolphins would regret exposing him to the waiver wire.

He would never make the practice squad.

Fans need to understand why Davone Bess has been returning punts for us. It is not because he is fast and is a threat to return one. It is because D Bess is smart and can be counted on not to drop it and to make good decisions.

Again, as CK said, a football team has to have a player that will not muff punts. If he is fast and quick and can make good returns that is a plus. Remember that C Gates was doing returns until he muffed one between his legs and perhaps almost giving up a TD. He was yanked out and P Livas has been doing them since.

P Livas has the two things you look for in a returner. Speed/quickness and football smarts.

Keeping him allows D Bess to be a WR 100% of the time.

Davone Bess and Phil Livas share a number of things in common. They both think quickly and they both have quick, short strides and reach their top speed really quickly. Livas should be a better punt returner though because he tops out a lot faster than Davone. Davone is actually a good punt returner despite what everyone says. You average 11 yards per return, you're a good punt returner. But with 4.7 speed, he was never going to break big ones for touchdowns. Livas will, and indeed already has.

And I would LOVE to see what the guy can do from the slot as a WR.

he hasn't made any mistakes i saw him fly forward for a ball that would have bounced over most returners heads saving 20 yards
i also like how he kept that key 4th and 5 drive going with the clutch catch he also lets bess concentrate at receiver
and is a threat to score if we let him he will get a couple touchdowns returning ...

He's been our Kick returner and Punt returner almost all preseason, and has played mistake free. The 4th game they gave him one chance at WR, and he made a clutch play. He's not only going to make this team but do I dare to say if he continues to develop this year that this team will have a younger, faster version of Bess.

when you catch one ball against guys who won't have a job next week you get cut

A few say they don't want Gates on returns. Why? Not good or too much of an injury risk. Does it have to do with his one muff?

The thing is, that was really his only opportunity. They didn't really give him much of a shot in the passing game. Id almost rather have him than Marlon moore. How often are we going to throw to Moore during the year anyway? And Livas can bring explosiveness to the return game and catch a pass every couple of games if he needs to.

Omar Kelly predicts Roberto Wallace on the 53 with Moore and Livas both cut. That would be a big mistake IMO.
