Let me start by saying that under normal circumstances, drafting Jason Allen at 16 is not a bad pick... In fact it's a very good one based on his potential and how it fills such a need on our defense.
That being said, when there is a potential franchise LT on the board in a guy like Winston Justice, I really don't see how we couldv'e possibly passed on him. I had him going #10 overall to Arizona before Leinart fell to them and I heard a lot of people say that Justice was not a much worse prospect than D'Brickashaw. This guy probably couldv'e come in and started for us at left tackle from day one and given us bookend tackles for years... LJ Shelton is pretty much fat and useless judging from his play in previous years.
I still support the pick of Jason Allen, and I hope he tears it up in the secondary for us from day one, but I still don't understand how we passed up a top 10 caliber prospect that would have also filled a big need for us. Priority #1 should be keeping Culpepper upright in the pocket, and HEALTHY. I'll eat a lot of crow if Joe Toledo lives up to his physical potential and starts for us at some point, this year or next, but I wouldv'e liked to have seen the draft go like this...
Rd 1 - Winston Justice
Rd 3 - Best d-back available (was Ko Simpson there?)
Rd 4 - Brandon Marshall
