Some Minnesota players want the team to hire Dolphins and former Vikings offensive coordinator Scott Linehan as head coach next season if Mike Tice is fired.

That brings up some interesting points. How do we keep him if other teams will be offering him Head Coach jobs? Isnt the whole offense built around his system ? Would it not be a step back to hire another OC ?

Would be stupid if saban did not discussed that issue with Linehan when signed him. IMO if he said he would leave if a good coaching oportunity appeared probably saban put someone behind linehan whos learning and catching everything so when linehan leaves we can implement a new, though similar offense to this one

I have no doubt that Scott will get interviews in the offseason. Will Wilf bring him in? Possibly, but there will be quite a few teams that will come calling if our offense continues to score points.

A lot of people on here contend that he's getting paid well here, so why should he leave? A big factor is having the chance to direct a complete football team.

If he leaves to be a HC, I would be sad to see him leave, but very proud, because it means that he made our offense potent.

We will lose him eventually, maybe not next offseason, but we have guys that are definitely going to be ready to take his place, because Tice had no plan in place to replace him if he left Minnesota. That left them in a lurch and caused them to hire somebody that very possibly wasn't ready (Loney).

Here, we've got Baggett, who would probably get the nod as the replacement, and would be ready if another team makes an offer to Scott.

this has been touched on a couple of times with some interesting comments. I am hopeing that he feels <insert whatever guilt trip necessary here> compelled to stay. A few years around Saban might make him the next new era capoligist coach. Magic is about to happen in Miami and there is no way that success here would weaken his position or lessen his opportunities and as long as the pay is comparable I think he will stay.

If linehan gets offered a head coaching job that intrigues him he will take it in a heartbeat. Pay is one thing but its only human wanting to take on new challenges and advance in life. Why would linehan want to stay around here longer since it looks like saban is going to be here for a while and has no chance to get the HC job here.

my feeling on that is that there is an opportunity to learn something very few others have figured out(this is truly supposition until time proves me right...or wrong). How to manage your team like New England. Unless we fall flat on our face, Linehan is only enhanced by time spent here. He will recognize that Minny's offer is only the first of what will be many if we succeed. Of course I have no idea if there might be some personal reason for liking artic weather but that two weeks of 80 degree highs we always have every January is pretty appealing. I'll bet his family likes our weather better too.

do we get any compensation if we lose him?

Nope, we just have to offer the most money...

Yu get a compensation only if your head coach leaves in the middle of the contract?

The thing about being a head coach is that 99% of the time you get one shot at it.
If you fail, that's typically the end of your career as a head coach.
Linehan is very young.
For him to be a head coach of a team next year is a big gamble as far as his future goes
I am sure he is aware of that.
I know he is being paid well.
I don't see him leaving the Phins for a higher position for a few more years.

why a new offense? if he had someone behind him learning wouldnt it be smarter to keep using the same offense, like the Patriots are doing right now.

Minn has the lowest payroll for its coaches in the league. Miami has the highest. Hes making more here than Mike Tice I think. He left what appeared to be an elite offense to come here to what appeared to be....a weak one. I doubt hell go back to Minn. I think he had alot of good reasons to leave...mainly thier ownership issues.

If he did ever leave Id like to see us go after Bobby Petrino from Louisville.
