Already paying Howard, Jones, Baker, and Ogbah on defense. Going to pay Chubb. Can’t pay everyone. Is Miami not going to pay Christian Wilkins when it’s time to pay him? I rather keep Wilkins over Ogbah. Maybe Miami can trade Ogbah during next season the moment he looks decent with a few sacks lol

You probably don't...

I mentioned this in another thread, but my bet is that we sign Chubb to a deal with a very low cap hit for 2023, and then it goes up in 2024 when Ogbah is gone.

Trading Ogbah would be tough unless he's killing it... and if he's killing it, we keep him.

Sign as many players as we can prior to the new cap agreements in the upcoming years. Players can have down years, and good years. Let's see how the defense shapes up with Chubb before we jump to conclusions.
I'm not giving up on Ogbah with some of the nagging injuries just yet.
Well obviously we can’t dump him now but looking to see how Miami can avoid being burdened with a bad contract like Ogbah while losing players like Wilkins in 2 years

Agreed. I hate when people say "Tua's going to get paid, so is Wilkins if they perform well"

Thats a GOOD thing. We want players to play well and earn money. Players turning out bad just so we don't give them contracts is what makes for lasting mediocre teams!

I agree it's a good thing but Phins will have to manage the cap. Can't pay everybody

Will that move have to be before or after Miami extends Wilkins?
2024 is our out year for Ogbah to have a minimal cap hit. 2024 is also the year Wilkins becomes a free agent. I THINK we can cut Ogbah in the off-season after the 2023 season has played out so theoretically we could extend Wilkins that same off-season before free agency starts. But I'm no capologist.
