IMO Ryan Tannehill, with a decent O'line and running game is very good. When you consider the 2014 draft is high on O'lineman, how far away are we?
We are far away.
We need another receiver. Someone who can slash up the opposing teams when they double up Wallace. Hartline isnt that guy, as he keeps getting tackled by ghosts.
We need a tight end. Clay has stepped up, but hes just a guy. We need a true threat there.
We need a free safety.
...i could keep going, but its depressing breaking it down. We need a massive influx of talent. Our roster has way to many role players or "just guys". Thats what happens to your roster when you continuously bust on your high draft picks. Brian Hartline is a metaphor for this franchise: not a bad player, but not a threat to opponents. I have no doubt opposing teams pay attention to us, they dont write us off...but they dont fear us either.
If we were to fix the line and pick up a quality tight end...we might be able to make the playoffs in 2014, if our division stays crappy. But without some players that can score on any play, guys who are matchup nightmares, guys who can make a big defensive play, we wont win a Superbowl. Which, going into year 6 of the Jeff Ireland experience, should be the focus of every conversation.
And for the record: why in gods name does anyone think we can fix this offensive line? Ireland has spent the 1st overall pick, the 15th overall pick, a second round pick, 2 third round picks, a fourth round pick, a sixth round pick, over $100 million in free agents...and its still in shambles. I have utterly no faith that Ireland can fix this line. None.
