One day to kill until JAX...

How well do you think this team would have done without the key season-ending injuries we suffered? Do you think we'd have a similar record if every player we lost during the year was still playing?

Were some injuries actually "helpful" in a way? Certainly you can argue that some of our younger players have gotten a chance to play due to injuries to vets.

Do you feel injuries derailed our season (from a record standpoint) from what could have been, didn't have much of an effect, or actually helped us win games this season.

To recap, here were the key season-ending injuries suffered this year:
Chad Pennington: vs. SD
Patrick Cobbs: vs. NYJ (1st game)
Will Allen: vs. NO
Ronnie Brown: vs. TB
Jason Ferguson: vs. CAR

every team has injuries. you cant use injuries as an excuse, its part of the game. its all about having depth.

The obvious answer would be "yes, we'd have a better record without all the injuries." But this team wasn't exactly tearing it up when at full strength. We started 0-3, albeit against tough competition.

I think we beat Buffalo with a few of those guys back, but that might be it.

The only loss I see that injuries may have swayed it is the Buffalo game. If Ferg is in there, and definitely Ronnie and the wildcat, I think we win that one. Other than that, I think the things would be mostly the same.

what if? what if? ...and what if we just focus on what this team is? in a bad position to make the playoffs... we need a ton of help, or just (more likely) a loss by the patsies to buffalo and win out by the fins

I love Pennington but he wouldn't be able to bring us back the way Henne has

Henne will win you more games than Pennington (just my opinion)

As much as i like Chad Pennington i think him getting hurt really helped out the franchise in knowing what they have in Henne. Will Allen's injury let both rookie corners start and learn by playing and playing against big time receivers. The Ronnie injury really hurt but it wouldve hurt so much more if we didnt have Ricky. Without a doubt tho the Chad Pennington injury was the most significant. Henne has really shown he can play and Pennington was great for us, i thank him for what hes done for us and i wish him the best with whatever he does but im pretty sure Henne is our franchise QB. Im glad he was able to learn under Chad Pennington because Hennes got all the tools to be great and to learn from one of the smartest QBs in the league was a big advantage for Chad Henne.

Sean Smith and Vontae Davis have both been beat for big plays, several times but thats somewhat expected from a rookie going up against big time receivers and some future hall of famers. Vontae has made some big plays and has shown some serious potential of being a top CB in the league in years to come. He is fast and loves to hit and has shown he can make big plays. Sean Smith hasnt made the big plays but he has knocked some balls aways and broken up some passes but overall i see some potential in him. He hasnt played the position for very long and hes starting at it in the NFL. I think that these guys playing is the best way to make us a good defense once again. Hopefully this offseason they really put alot of time into the things they have been doing wrong, step their game up and really become one of the best CB tandems in the NFL.

How good would the '93 Team have been if we didn't lose Marino, Vincent, among others? We'll never know huh. :(

We go to the SB w/o those injuries. No doubt about it. Good 'ol Miami Dolphin luck.

I remember Steve Deberg was starting a something like a week after being picked up off the street. He beat Dallas on Thanksgiving, well actually Leon Lett beat Dallas, and then we never won again.

We would have beaten the Bills. That's the only difference.

As much as it helps to use the excuse of losing Penington, Allen, and Ferguson for our 6-6 record, the truth is those losses have forced the team to become younger and more future proof immediately. Those three injuries will make this team better in the long run.

The loss of Pennington was actually a good thing in a twisted way as it gave the front office an easy way out of the awkward transition of Pennington to Henne.

I could have done without the injury to a in his prime Brown, and Cobbs. I don't like putting the brunt of the running workload on a 32 year old back, no matter how special he is.

I honestly dont know. As much as I liked Pennington I dont see him making throwing the bomb to Ginn against the Jets that helped us win or carving up the Pats secondary. After the Ravens, Penny was just not the same. I miss Ronnie, I miss Fergie, Cobbs & Will
