how good do you guys think our special teams were this year ?

With much of our focus on our deffense and offense where does our special teams fit into all this as where we are as a team ?

I for on would love to have Linebacker/ safety Donald Booker and Linebacker Orie Lemon to help get turnovers . but I am not sure if they can play at the nfl level on defense . I wanted us to sign Adarius Bowman and draft DEZ Bryant and use Bowman and Camarillo on return duties with a occasional runningback on returns.

I would say fix the defense and special teams this year bring in te algee Crumpler or McMichael and if kc wants to trade RB Savage for ted Ginn I would trade and then we would have insurance in caes two of our runingbacks dont make it back.

SO what is to become of our special teams coach do we need to cut ties or do we keep him ? just curious about this facet of the team, any thoughts here ?

Our coverage was spot on, but the return game was bottom 10 in the league, IMO. Outside of the Ginn game, our return game was pathetic.

I'd give our special teams a C+ grading . Carpenter and fields were both good and as CW said our coverage was ok but our return gams is pathetic. Outside the Jets game we struggled to get decent field position from our returners , not that i'm blaming Ginn/Cobbs/Bess or anyone else who had a go but the blocking seems weak when we return kicks/punts .Perhaps its not a player issue but more a coaching/scheme issue ??

Hands down worst ST unit in the NFL. There were absolutley no holes for the return game. For a coaching staff to be so anal on preparation how the heck was this allowed all year long. Ginn sucked but the guy had no holes to run through. The ST coach SHOULD be FIRED yesterday. Go get Bobby April now that he got canned.

Coverage team was light years ahead of last year . . . I gotta give the ST coach props on that.

The return game was still weak tho, and it didn't seem to matter who we put back there for 2 seasons. Let's face it, the 2 returns Ginn returned, that was pretty much all Teddy on both returns . . . especially that 2nd one. And on punts it was even worse, did we even have a punt return over 10 yards? If we did, it had to be on a big punt and we had room to run.

Our kicking game IMO is top 10 in the league. Solid punter and Solid FG kicker. Carp could give us a few more touchbacks tho, but I will take the FG%.

So Ginn sucks because there are no holes? If anyone sucked on returns it was Bess on punts. He may as well fair caught every punt. I cant remember a return over 15 yards. If Ginn wasnt going to get on the field he may as well returned punts. He couldnt have done any worse. Bess is just to slow to be a dynamic return guy. I really believe that Ginn should return all kicks. He was a above average return guy on a below average Special teams unit. Might as well use him cause we were paying him. The thing about returns are that you arent going to break them all, but at least Ginn has the potential to break one every once in a while. Dont get me wrong I like Bess, but he is not a punt returner!

People are kidding themselves if they think Ginn isn't one of the top returners in the league. Our special teams returns team has been awful for years, and Ginn still finds ways to break it a few times a year.

Our STs have some real problems. Fixing them should begin with replacing the ST coach and then getting a real kick returner...which Ginn and Bess are not. (You Ginn-lovers can argue his two TD's all you want...overall he sucks at returns too!)
