How good is our secondary?

It's solid but not spectacular and is nothing next to what we've had in the past with Surtain and Madison. This group shouldn't give up many big plays but unless Allen learns how to catch, it won't make any big plays either. It could be anywhere from average to top 10 in the league depending on how they perform compared to what they've done in the past.

With 3-4 new starters, we should wait until at leat pre season before we have a clue

Having bigger corners now should we expect more corner blitzing? Does anyone think will poole will contend for the starting job or play more of a nickel back role?

Our system is like Bilicheck's in that we don't need a great secondary. However, to be honest it looks average-poor. We have little idea who will be starting at either safety(Bell and draft pick IMO). Corners are solid with allen, daniels and poole.

Nobody knows..They haven't played yet.

:yeahthat:

They are all potentially good. They have some of the worlds best coaches in Capers & Saban, who will implement creative schemes. They are bolstered by a fine LB corps, and an excellent pass rusher in JT.

I'd say the are all in a wonderful situation. Now what they do with it, and how healthy they remain, remains to be seen.

But I think, especially with 1st or 2nd rounder added, could turn into a team strength. And then, watch out top 5 defense in the league!!!

SO...It's gonna be (if the season started today):
Will Allen CB
Travis Daniels CB
or Will Poole CB
& Andre Goodman?

Safety:
Yeremiah Bell? or Deke Cooper?
& Tavares Tillman or Reynaldo Hill?

I have NO IDEA how all this is going to add up...

Plus...I REALLY WANT THEM TO DRAFT THE BEST CB or SAFETY available to us at #16!

Yeah i think there is going to be some good competition in the secondary this year. If we draft another DB in the first round we will be set.

It really all depends.........ya, I know, earth shattering insight there lol.....

Travis Daniels stepped up big time last year as a rookie. To me, he looks to have to saavy that alot of veteran DB's do. He felt his way thru his rookie campaign and to me he showed what it takes, regardless of any of his physical limitations. Will Poole is the "X" factor. When he was a rookie, he had me excited playing like he did. Much like Daniels, he's a gamer and shows the toughness I like out of a DB. Yet, he's coming back from that knee tear.

I pretty much watch all the NFL games every weekend and I've always liked what I've seen out of Will Allen, yet another tough guy and, as somebody pointed out in another thread, he really didn't give up that many YPC if you scratch out the massive games put on by Santana Moss against him. But let's not pretend here, you want to know how your DB is going to stack up against a reciever like that.

I notice that we've got a ton of blue-collar types in our secondary. Renaldo Hill played extremely well in AZ, but sort of drowned out in his 1 year stint in Oakland (big surprise there huh)........ Deke Cooper and Tavares Tillman, again, blue collar guys. I think Yeremiah Bell has the potential to make plays if they use him in blitz packages and utilize his athleticism. He started to come on at the end of the season.

I didn't see much of Goodman so I can't really comment.

I'm optimistic though.........I like all the signings........there's a good combination of youth and experience there and I can't reiterate how much it helps us the way that Travis Daniels panned out because he's going to be even better this year.

We very well could have the best Secondary in the NFL this year.

:jk: But I do believe this could be a more solid Secondary then last year.... As long as we get the same Pass rush we got last year, this will be a tougher team to throw at, but still does have plenty of room for improvment.
