How good would we be with a top 5 to 8 QB?

Can't believe everyone hasn't said Super Bowl contender.
Those that hate Henne realize how much he's holding this team back. Those that are still riding Henne out think we're a playoff team NOW and they know he's not even a top 15 QB in the league. Not even top 20. So subtract Henne and add a top five QB and you're EASILY a Super Bowl contender.

What happened to Marino is way different than what we had and may have now Dan never had a running game and some of those years a defense that had holes. You put a pre achilles injury Marino in with any of those offenses from the R & R express years and I could safely say playoff's consistantly and most likely a couple SB wins too, especially compounded efficiency with today's rules that protect the QB more,tuck rule, arm moving forward rules and replay use. All that aside though you put a b+ to a qb with our team today and we fight for a spot in the playoffs this year...you pick up an A Tight end and an elite receiver opposite Marshall your deep into the playoff's and maybe SB. Unfortunatey, even with all the optimism being thrown at Henne yet again for another year I believe the final 5 weeks of our season will be meaningless again. I just can't drink the Kool-Aid that is being attempted to be sold to everyone, you might be able to change how someone appears in practice but unless you can reprogram someone's mind to be quick thinking and decisive, mistakes are going to continue being made, the same mistakes that have plague us from the previous 2 years. Henne might even learn how to read a defense at first blush but when the D changes it up his mind will be too scrambled up to react to change play and make the proper reads. It's nice to be optomistic and support your QB which I'm doing but I also know where Henne's comfort zone is that he likes to fall back into so I'll be peeking between my fingers that will be covering my eyes with fear of expectation but also hope for change. I'd love nothing more than to see Henne finally figure this whole NFL thing out and ultimately is my hope, he does that and I think the Dolphins will shock alot of people this year.

I understand having a top 10 QB would be a huge step in the right direction, but we have some pretty key cogs who are largely untested. R&R are gone and we've got two new RB's (one a rookie). While we should be better overall, we've still got many new pieces on defense (Burnett, the return of Odrick and Edds) including questions in the secondary.
My vote is somewhere between wildcard/playoff contender, but I'm kind of shocked with everyone thinking we'd magically be a Superbowl Contender. Didn't work out for Dan and he was in the top 3 every year. Who's to say DT and RB won't fizzle like all of Dan's RB's did? You put a top 5-10 QB on a PROVEN team, then I say that makes you a Super Bowl contender year after year. We have't proven anything yet.

I am reminded so much of the Jayball era with this current team. We were asking this same question during those seasons with, what else, a top 5 D. Now, same situation. Henne and Jay have a lot in common. Even down to their ultra-conservative coaches.
Right now, I'd settle for a top half of the league QB...but not dumb & dumber...they think he's great.
If Saban wasn't so in love with the SEC and valued part time RBs more than top rated QBs who fell in his lap thanks to our own Mike Nolan, maybe we would have won a Superbowl already.
3 teams were looking for a QB (or shoulda been): 49'ers, the soon to be Gus Frerotte-lead Saban delusionals and that supposed QB guru Gruden at 5 who stood pat with Brian friggin Griese. Yet another way Saban screwed this franchise.

Too bad Saban did not have a good GM and sat back and just coached. its obvious he is a good coach. Not as obvious on NFL level but only two seasons. They loved him year one not so much year two lol
too bad since the server crash that the archives of dusty "old stuff" don't go back to the "Saban as our messiah" or "Trent Green is the missing piece" eh? ...cause it does seem like fun blowing the dust off selective old threads.

Henne: 13-14/2 seasons, (7-9 second season) no playoffs, saddled with what the FO and The Fossil gave him to work with, took a lot of crap, never complained and buckled down
Saban: 15-17/2 seasons, (6-10 second season.. absense of OC Linehan revealed first season to be fluke) no playoffs, dug own grave with his picks and FA signings, couldn't cut it so he lied and quit
Bottom Line: Is Henne our QB version of HC/GM Saban? Although the similarities are eery.. at this point, I sure hope not!!!

The biggest problem besides choosing wrong qb in sabans second year was not letting his offensive coordinator run his own offense . Mike Mularkey was forced to run Linhan's offense. Mularkey has done a great job in Atllanta and was previously good in Pitt.
Hell we might as well add Sparano to that list since he is basically a .500 at best coach

It's hard to quantify this. In the NFL there is no formula that says: Top 5 QB+Best LT in the League+Top 5 Defense-Unproven Running Game/Lame Duck HC=Super Bowl Contender.
There are just too many factors. It's a QB driven league for sure, but football is a team game. There have been some Super Bowl contending teams without Top 5 QB's, not saying it's the norm or something we should strive for....but it certainly is something to consider. And there have been some good QB's that played on some crappy teams.

Does it really matter what you had if your OC calls 3rd and 15 play action with a dreadful oline? Every passing route was a comeback. Wasn't it one of our players that was gettin in a heated exchange with Finnegan because he was naming all our routes?
